Need help with valuation of Walter Payton signed photo

My co-worker's husband was a photographer for the Bears back in the 1980's. He took many great photos.
The photo I have a question about is of Walter Payton making a touchdown during the game he broke Jim Brown's record. This game was October 4th, 1984 against the Saints. My co-worker's husband had it personally signed by Sweetness himself. I fully trust my co-worker, but for value purposes I'm sending it to PSA/DNA to get the signature authenticated and rated.
Anyone on the forum know of a reputable business that will provide me with a value of this photo? Or, does anyone on the forum have an opinion of the value? Thank you for any help.

It would have been better to have it signed in sharpie vs. a pen.........

    cool item nonetheless

Great photo. Once authenticated you should have no problem selling it here.

By the time you pay the fee to get it authenticated + shipping & insurance both ways, you'll come out with about $50 to $60.

I would list it in the BST and guarantee it will pass. No need to leave all that money on the table.

Thanks for your feedback fellas. I would have thought to pay her a little more than $150 for this. I have been looking on-line and found a photo of the same play, same game, however it is from a different angle and is in color as opposed to my black and white print. It's retailing over $1k. I'm a newbie so there's probably something i'm missing here in terms of valuation comparisons, but just thought I'd point it out. Thanks again for your help.

surely you understand what someone is asking for something and what they could get are two different things.........

OK, I checked eBay's completed auctions & found an autographed color 8x10 with both PSA/DNA & JSA certification, which fetched $180

    Completed Auction Linky

The fact that your picture was taken the same game that Payton passed Jim Brown (and not the actual play itself) adds little to no value IMO

    Good Luck

<< <i>PSA/DNA to get the signature authenticated and rated. >>

I hope 'rated' doesn't mean your paying to have the autograph graded. A black ball point sig on a b/w pic isn't going to grade well and may actually hurt the value.

  • the photo for sure is probably not worth what you think it's worth (Walter signed a lot of stuff before he passed)... as others have said it's not worth being "rated" if you want to get a number grade.

But good luck whatever you do!

Thanks again for the comments. Good point about not geting the signature rated. I won't do that now. Just the authentication process. This all clears up my questions. Thanks again,
