Received in the mail today my signed leather bound edition of the quarter book, with slipcase and including photos of the Newman coins. One word: Wow!
Thanks guys. Great job.

They had an option to put the subscriber's name in gold stamping on the front cover. It was hard to decide, would the book be worth more, or less with my name on the front cover? And for the life of me, I can't remember what I decided to do I guess I will find out soon enough.

<< <i>Cool. I eschewed the regular edition in favor of this one, so I will look forward to getting it soon and checking out the contents. >>
I would never "eschew" any book. My cat certainly does chew books, his record is 67 pages of a paperback in one bite.

I do admire the guys who have beautiful libraries of fantastic, pristine volumes (and one of those cool wooden ladders to reach the books on the second shelf), but my own library is filled with catalogs and references with split bindings and loose pages, most of which are now out of order.

Do you mean out of print? Or do you have a vending machine that spits out numismatic catalogs?

I have one shelf of nice looking books, and the rest of 'em look, I suspect, a lot like yours.
Can anyone enlighten us as to the use of courier font on the spine? I found that part of the production unusual.
I was under the impression that those who reserved a leather bound edition by putting down a deposit would be contacted when the books would be close to done so that those people could....
- Decide if they wanted a slipcase for their book
- Decide if they wanted their name embossed on the cover
- Send in their final payment for the book
So now some folks are getting their signed and numbered leather bounds, and apparently unsigned leather bounds as well. I didn't even know there were going to be unsigned leather bound editions. Is your copy unsigned but not numbered, RTS? I remember you were selling one of your Hermes silk handkerchiefs in order to get one!
For those who received their copies, did you pay in full when these were originally announced despite the request to send in a down payment? Or did you send in a down payment and then get contacted for the balance and asked about the extras?
If my book arrives Monday or Tuesday with the proper extras I wanted and an invoice for the difference, that would be great. If not, I'll have to wait until I hear back from Brad.
Can't wait to receive my copy - 1TwoBits
Unsigned and not numbered as requested.

Coinosaurus, I do not know the Font Type that was used for the leatherbound, I have not received my leatherbound as of yet so I feel a bit (well, more than a bit) left out if you know what I mean..................but I do expect it soon.
Anyone else still waiting?

RTS, did you put in a special request for an unsigned/unnumbered copy? Was it priced less than the signed/numbered version? As I mentioned, I wasn't aware there was going to be an unsigned/unnumbered version of the leather bound.
No offense to RTS or anyone else, but lets say one or more copies of the leather bound edition were made with the plates from Eric Newman's collection. The "Special Edition" that was advertised was signed and numbered to 50 copies. Does anyone feel that having copies in addition to the advertised 50 signed/numbered "Special Edition" copies diminishes the "Special-ness" of this release a bit? Would it depend on how many? There's usually less of the "Special Edition" of anything, I hope there's not 50 or more unsigned copies ;-) . In my opinion, it made sense that Eric signed every leather bound copy that contained his plates, and those should have been the only ones. I don't know, maybe 55 copies should have been made to avoid any problems. I wonder how many unsigned copies there really are.
TPRC - Wow, so close to that #50!
Rick - I'm with you on those census charts, as I'm getting used to them. You just can't forget about using them.
I simply asked for a book sans signatures/numbering as I don't like people writing in my books and the numbering is arbitrary and meaningless.
I did pay the same amount as published for the signed editions.
I can assure we held to our 50 limited, numbered, signed leatherbounds. When the deluxe leatherbound copies, along with the Hardbounds were printed we were told there will be a +- percentage made in each run. That part is somewhat uncontrolled on our end. So, we ended up with a greater number for each. Now, during each process of assembling leatherbounds we naturally had put in for extras: (1) in case some Newman plates were damaged or (2) missing, (3) binding issues, (4) shipping damage or (5) mistakes in signing the 5 authors names. I do remember signing a percentage more. So, when it's all done and said-it's better to have extra copies than short individuals and have unhappy customers. Again, there are only 50 signed, plated, numbered special leatherbounds-with a number of un-numbered copies remaining. I am not aware of the count but I can eventually find out later.
I did get an email from Brad yesterday. I am to relay he is sending out second notices to some individuals for payment processing. I will make sure 1TwoBits order gets addressed/filled asap including the slipcase and name on the cover.

First, let me say that I love the new book. It's a really great volume, and none of my comments regarding the leatherbound edition have anything to do with the content of the book - that's all fabulous.
I really appreciate someone directly involved with the project trying to address my questions. I've felt a little in the dark since I saw this thread last Friday night and quickly sent off an email to Brad that remains unanswered. I kept thinking of the old saying "failing to plan is planning to fail." I couldn¡¦t figure it out because there was a clear plan for the leatherbounds that I followed, yet it doesn't seem like it was followed and properly executed on the other side. You mention that Brad is sending out second notices to some individuals for payment processing, but I actually never received a first notice asking for payment. All I ever needed was a first notice and my payment would have been sent in. If I recall correctly, that was supposed to happen BEFORE the books were ready to ship! Did anyone out there who put down a deposit on a leatherbound get a first notice with a balance amount and request to send in the remainder of your payment? If yes, please post that you got a first notice and I will consider that maybe I was the only one that somehow got missed. If something went awry and I was handling the leatherbounds, I don't think I would have sent any out before invoicing those with standing deposits. I might have looked at things even more fairly and maybe not send any copies out until all payments were received, especially if I messed up on the invoicing. I can only speculate until I'm given facts. It's strange to me that you were the only person to chime in that you hadn't received your leatherbound yet. Were we the only ones? Out of courtesy, I would have expected Glenn Peterson, Jon Kovack, and yourself to receive the leatherbounds prior to anyone else since you are the principals on the project. I'd think the principals should get to examine the final product prior to the public so they can answer any questions that come up once the copies are released to the public. We've waited this long, I guess that's just me. If you or Brad would simply let me know the amount of the balance I owe, I will immediately send it in payable to "Browning Book" again unless directed otherwise. If I'm given a phone number, I'll even call with a credit card if it will expedite things. Otherwise, I'll wait until Brad gets the invoicing out!. I'd like my copy before Christmas 2012 :-) This is all giving me some great perspective on why it might have taken so long for the regular book to come out! I don't think I'm asking too much, and I never thought I had to keep tabs on this and bug someone to make sure it was all done as originally conveyed. I should have never had to make these posts!
Regarding the unsigned copies...
I can certainly understand the need for signing extra sheets and having a few extras to replace damaged copies and such, but due to no communication I could only wonder and speculate on the unsigned copies until I heard otherwise. I'm glad that it doesn't seem like there will be very many.
I would be interested in knowing:
- how many unsigned leatherbounds were made?
- how many unsigned leatherbounds have been sold and how many remain for sale?
- why was the price the same as a signed version?
I would place a higher value on the signed/numbered edition, so that¡¦s curious to me that the price was the same. RTS should at least have gotten some sort of a discount in my mind.
Does anybody else want to acknowledge that they did or didn't get a first notice after they put down their deposit? Does anybody other than me have any feedback or comments?
A bust quarter for your thoughts...
I place zero value on signatures/numbering so I do not think I am deserving of any discount as the book is for all intents and purposes the same book...different persons
value different things...varietas delectat.

I honestly don't know if I got a notice or not. I do know I was pinging a couple of the authors periodically about the project, to the point of giving them a hard time (in a friendly way) about the whole schedule.
Our CEO likes to use the word "overcommunicate." It means repeating stuff past the point of being redundant, just to be 110% sure the message is getting through.
Usually things go better when you do that. It doesn't mean the other party is blameless, it just means things tend to go better when you do that.
