Guess Who's Coming to Join the 1971 Topps BB Party....

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I stayed up until roughly 4AM late last year waiting to bid on the pop 1 of 1 in the Mile High auction
for this card and they decided to end he auction in the middle of the 15 minute rule (I know it was
late, but you have to honor your published rules and play it out to the end) so I was unable
to bid as planned.

So when I saw this come up in the PWCC auction I was SO pumped that its now a pop 2 card!

Needless to say I was "all-in" for this one and, compared to last year (and also to recent PSA 9
sales of similar 1971 Topps HOF stars with much higher populations), I got what I think is a
bargain.

I can see it just fine. It does have a big white space next to it so maybe that is the issue for some.

That is a really sweet card and it seems those 1971 Topps are the hot ticket.

I bet you can't wait to get that bad boy in hand!

Congrats, was that a comparable sale price to the original auction (which by the way is wild the way they ended it), I would assume a now POP 2 and the second auction might score you a better price but then again maybe you had more time to stir about the loss of the first auction and it went for more? Awesome card.

...and I don't know what Dpeck is talking about, I do not see any white space beside the card.

I see the large white space to the right of the card, it's the same size as the card on the left.

Given the most recent results for 1971 Topps HOF/Star PSA 9s in the recent Memory Lane auction (and
other recent results), the Brooks Robinson PSA 9 population 2 was a bargain (especially since the first one
    sold at $6635 last November).

Here are the comps from Memory Lane's last auction

CARD # PLAYER HIGH BID HIGH BID + PREMIUM PSA 9 POPULATION
    5 Munson $7,086.00 $8,432.34 4
    20 Jackson $3,451.00 $4,106.69 8
    26 Blyleven $2,924.00 $3,479.56 13
    100 Rose $3,897.00 $4,637.43 9
    250 Bench $2,438.00 $2,901.22 5
    513 Ryan $2,592.00 $3,084.48 25
    600 Mays $2,143.00 $2,550.17 12
    630 Clemente $2,658.00 $3,163.02 15
    709 Baker/Baylor $1,947.00 $2,316.93 6

Its population 2. See comps above. If Blyleven (pop 13) goes at $3500 and Munson (pop 4 and not even in the HOF)
goes at $8400+ then this will ultimately be a bargain.

How many more PSA 9s of this card are likely to appear at this point? Even if 4 more do (which is not too likely unless
Alan Rosen has another Paris "find") I shouldn't have to worry.

Plus it's going into a set where all the major stars are PSA 9s.

i was watching the pwcc auctions also. great card you now have there. i would have loved to have had that 1975 topps set they had for auction.
  • vladguerrerovladguerrero Posts: 4,077 ✭✭✭
You don't need to rationalize the spend, that's awesome you got it for some much less than the last one and that $ was excluding your potential bid! IMO the Munson is pretty overated, nice image, great card, just gets too much love if that's possible.

By white space do u mean the apparent crack in the case?
Might want to have it reholdered
  • 70ToppsFanatic70ToppsFanatic Posts: 2,106 ✭✭✭✭
I think the "white space" means the entire right "half" of the .jpg picture to the right of the holder.
When I copied the photo I pasted it into the "Paint" application and then saved it as a .jpg. Since
my pasted image only filled 1/2 of the pallette the right side remained "white".

As for the holder, I'll check with Brent on that. If it is a damaged holder it will most definitely need
    to be re-holdered.
