Cost to grade cards with PSA

So I am new to the graded cards and would like to get some of my personal collection graded. Right now it seems like PSA might be the most popular to submit to. However if I buy a platinum member ship with the 15 "free" submissions and submit 50 other cards in addition to that then Im out almost $500 in the end with all the shipping to and return shipping and insurance costs. Roughly that is about $7.69 per submission.

Is it me or is that just way too much money just to have 65 cards graded?
Collecting:
1992 Bowman Baseball PSA 9 or 10
1996-97 Skybox Autographics
Patrick Ewing
Johnny Moore (Basketball)
Robert Horry

It depends on whether or not getting the cards graded would, on average, increase each card's value by $7.69.

The membership only pays off if you sub more than just once a year (i.e. the 15 freebies plus that 50 card sub). Also, the previous poster is right - depends on how much grading is worth to you.

  • If the cards have a decent value and a decent grade it makes sense. Many people waste a lot of money getting cheap cards graded. You can buy graded cards for as little as a $1.00 per card. Obviously you do not want to grade cards like that. If you have old vintage cards or high dollar rookie cards, you have to grade them for top value.

    Good luck,

There are many of us that have increased the value of our cards by dramatically more then we have spent on grading fees.

If you have a bunch of 1986 Fleer baseball to get graded then yes it is too much. If you have some higher value items that can explode in price if graded then it is a great deal.

My advice would be to scan a few of your better cards that you plan to get graded and post them here. We can give you a pretty good idea of whether or not it makes sense ( or cents) to get them graded.
