1970 Topps Series 5 Rack Rip

After watching the 1970 Series 5/6/7 box rip, I found myself feeling like I needed to get my hands dirty
in a rip from my favorite set. Thankfully BBCE has two 1970 racks available (series 1 and series 5), so
I decided to splurge and go for it.

The rack was supposed to contain 54 cards, but this rack actually contained 55 cards. 54 were series 5 and 1 was series 6!

Cell 1 contained 20 cards
Cell 2 contained 17 cards
Cell 3 contained 18 cards

Here are the pulls from the Series 5 Rack Rip.....ENJOY

CELL 1:

A sharp Aaron AS, maybe an 8 but exhibiting the typical centering issues that prevent it from reaching a hiher level:

Two strong team cards:

A sharp checklist card!!! The AS cards are also clean but the typical centering issues are present:

The roughest from the first cell:

CELL 2

Some sharp commons, including Pete Rose RC "buddy" Al Weis:

A blazing Rollie Fingers (the original "fireman"):

The McDowell AS makes its appearance (typical OC):

Tony O and company (nice but OC):

And two very low pop (in high grade) series 5 cards, but typical centering issues:

CELL 3 (the best came out last)

The TRUE home run king in a blaze of glory (its got a very slight diamond cut, hope that won't kill it's chances at a 9).
The high res photo makes it look like there may be some surface wrinkles, but it just an optical effect from the scanner:

Bench AS (typical OC):

Nice Yaz AS, Freehan AS and Stargell:

Looks like a nice rip. I love watching you guys open....I just don't think I could allow myself to do it. When I get the itch to rip, I pull out the 1990 Donruss and bust with my girls.

That base Aaron is nice. Hopefully you can pull a 9 with it.

Great fun to watch!!! I love ripping, but I just couldn't bring myself to break a rack. Good luck on the Aaron

Nice rip, lots of great cards that probably look even better in hand!

Boy, the centering on those older packs is just brutally frustrating. It is certainly a rush, but the end result and the expense is too much for me. I'm glad there are others out there willing to take the risk and show off the results, though.

It's gotta feel great to pull a Hank Aaron like that! Thanks for sharing!

Nice rip. I was wondering where those 1970 racks went!

It is true, the centering is brutal on these 1970 rips but then sometimes you just get those beauties...

I notice white horizontal lines across the top edge of a few of your pulls. Is this common with this issues? I'm assuming this will knock your grade down some also, right?

Fun rip. Not surprising about the centering. Hope for an 8 on the Aaron. I didn't measure it out but it's probably borderline for an 8 with no shot at 9.

The white lines are somewhat common for the 1970 Topps cards, but I have seen many 8s and a few 9s with
    such lines.

By the way, this rack rip pretty much corroborates that one can anticipate pulling 2, maybe 3 fairly centered cards per 10 pulled from 1970 unopened material. IF you get the really right ones to come up centered, you have something there.

Then again, there are specific cards that have almost no shot of coming out centered. Those All-Star cards are brutal.

You said a mouthful brother! Two of them are only pop 2 in PSA 9. A couple more are pop 3 or pop 4. And then there are
a few that are pop 5 or pop 6.

4th and 5th series unopened packs, racks, cellos, etc. are merciless!

If you plan on getting these graded, I'd be interested in how these grade....Good luck!
