Neyronix Advert in Coin World

Bob Hughes has an ad in this week's Coin World (page 48) claiming if you don't buy his coins on eBay, you may be paying too much.
Somewhat ironic given the events of the last few days.
He advertises proudly that he is a life member in the ANA.
If the events recounted on this board about his shill bidding on eBay are true, the ANA should revoke his membership, IMO.
But I guess they're too busy besmirching the name of Larry Sheperd.

There have been very few revoked memberships even for worse behavior than this.image

It's unfortunate that the ANA has become primarily an organ for big dealers and wealthy collectors.
I still enjoy The Numismatist and the submission privileges ATS but I really feel the ANA has lost touch with the average collector.image

In order to have membership revoked, someone has to file a complaint with the ANA. has anyone who bought from him done that?

    1) you have to have been wronged.

    2) You have to be an ANA member yourself.

    3) you have to file a complaint.

    4) the ANA arbitration board has to find that you were wronged.

    5) then ANA will ask Bob to fix the wrong caused. and if he fails to do that...

    6) They will expel him.

Very democratic, if you ask me.

I dunno, sounds like you can do the same thing over and over as long as you smile meekly and offer a refund every time you are caught.

I think for shill bidding you should complain to eBay.

How about a ANA Dealer membership which would specifically say that any shill bidding would be reason for termination of their "ANA Dealer" status.

There are probably many ANA members who could be caught shill bidding. Do you bring action against all of them? Or just the ones who you decide on?

Also, I think highlighting shill bidders here is a good way to make them pay a little in social "pain".

A good friend fore-warned me about RLH - and as a result
I have never had any dealings with him. That was the best
advice any friend could have given.

So the ANA does not care if a dealer defrauds or cheats anybody that is not a ANA member. If this is true I feel they should lose their government sanctions.

Wow! That's a loaded statement. Do you really believe that 1) it is what I meant 2) shill bidding is fraud? 3) you want anyone to run or ruin your life because they are chartered by Congress?

What I am saying is that the ANA code of conduct for member dealers should not be limited to only dealings with ANA members. They are chartered to act in the best interests of the Ameican public.

There is no separate dealer rules for ANA members. I think there should be a dealer membership to address your issue.

There used to be both an ANA member code of ethics and a dealer code of ethics. I just checked on line and I could not find them on the ANA website. I don't know if they exist or if they are under revision. Can anyone advise on that issue? If they still exist, they can form the basis of a claim and the Board is obligated to take it seriously. But you must read the rules and follow the rules.

In April 2006, the ANA made a public commitment to be the "standard bearer of ethical governance for the hobby and the industry .... and for consumer protection." I assume that this is still the case.

I've done plenty of business with RLH and it has always been a pleasure.
