Anybody consider this major PM trade?

Considering almost all-time historical high ratios for silverimagelatinum and goldimagelatinum.....

What about trading all silver and gold holdings for Platinum.

Any opinions?

I like platinum as it is actually RARE. Some 1/10th oz platinum maples were my first PM purchase. I was flipping through my coin guide and saw that platinum maples hadn't been produced in years, while silver and gold maples kept getting churned out. Figured they'd be a good buy, and they've been good.

But on the flip side, if the recession gets worse, the demand for platinum will shoot way down. It's highly specialized, the vast majority of it's demand is for calatytic converters in new cars, and jewellery.

are commodity markets traded based on ratios to each other? i think not and neither should physical PM's, IMHO

Good in theory. My experience when it comes time to sell is that it's a tougher sale. Just not as much interest.

I don't trust the economy enough to pull the trigger on that trade. Platinum will tend to follow the stock market. MJ

I might swap a little gold for platinum, but no way I am paying 90.00 over spot or so when only going to get spot minus back. This is a perfect example of where a paper trade works better, NO buy or sell premiums and gold or plat is just as easy to sell, just be sure to get in and out as soon as you hit your price point---all from the comfort of home------------------BigE

This is when I look for some of the PCGS-certified Plats that I need, which is quite a few....of course, it's harder to find anything at all when the price is down, unless it stays down for a good, long while.
