  • Taft should be pictured struggling to get out of a bathtub, since that is the story I always hear about him. "Taft, our fattest President, once got stuck in a bathtub..." That's what I think of whenever I hear his name.

...i think he inspired the shower idea. image

    More portraits... ugh.

However, I do think the Wilson portrait is less dull than the others.

How many more years of this program do we have to endure? They should not have messed with the Sac.

...good question. actually there are about 5 or 6 bills being written to stop or reduce production of the bucks currently

hovering around washington. and i agree, they NEVER should've messed with the sac! image

  • Those are nice-looking portraits. But they'll look like crap on the coins, just like all the rest.

Personally, I hope that they last long enough to get my fav, Ronald Reagan, on a dollar coin.

If you thought TAFT was fat, just wait till/if NJ Gov. Christie gets in there!!imageimage

Personally, I think the designs look ok on paper, but as others have said, once they get translated onto monochromatic coins, they just lose some of their key nuances..........

I also think TR should be portrayed a little older/"bully-er", with a little more meat on him.......

By the way... is it true the Penguin in the original Batman series was patterned after FDR?image

10/4/11 UPDATE: Thank goodness Christie-Kreme decided not to run!! By the next election, he will be a has-been anyway.........image

looks like they chose the right one.

    Great grayscale line drawings.

too bad they'd muck up the hair and flatten the image to remove all hope for a shining recreation of the original art.

I hate that front and 3/4 profiles have become popular in our coinage.

Interesting how the hair styles vary from design to design on TR!! I like the top-right of the rejected ones, but can live with the winner, I guess. Might have been nice to show him in the gear he wore in the charge up San Juan Hill or on his African safari's - - just for a break from the monotony!!

So nobody can confirm my understanding re: FDR and the Penguin?image

...when it's time for his prez buck, the small dollars will have been eliminated a long time. one of the bills to stop minting

them will have been passed. imo

Me too. Most of them look like Chuck E. Cheese tokens.

The Franklin half is an artistic masterpiece in comparison.

  • I don't these designs have been finalized. The first set of images posted on this thread were the choices of the CCAC and are only recommendations. The CFA made different recommendations on at least two of the coin designs so the jury is still out, so to speak. Besides, the Treasury Secretary has the final say and there has been no official announcement coming from the Mint.

...well they'd better get it in gear because they'll need to start minting them for the proof sets that should be coming out

in the next two months. image

  • <<...monochromatic...>> - they are monochromatic as they are presented here. Monotonous....well.

Hmm. seems to be some different ideas about what shape ears TR had image Details matter.

Why? These designs are for presidential dollars dated 2013... that's more than a year from now.

  • The TR portrait on the fourth one down on the right-hand side was used for several of his campaign buttons. But that's neither here nor there. I use presidential dollars in the pop machine at work, but only when I get them in change from the candy machine at work. image

Are those really the ones they will mint? Honestly, they are pretty ugly...for a coin at least. The artist was trying to be way too realistic for a coin. Look at the liberties and the indians...the detail was different, much better image in my opinion...oh well

Great to see TR's likeness on a coin. I've always thought he deserved a commemorative. After all if not for him we'd probably still be using Barber series coinage.
    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!
