New reference on New Jersey Coppers

Just read this in the E-Sylum. Anybody has more info?

New Jersey Coppers: A Comprehensive Analysis and Attribution Guide of New Jersey Colonial Coppers
Author: Michael A. Demling

Not since Dr. Edward Maris published his book Coins of New Jersey in 1881 has there been an updated work on these interesting colonial coins. The book consists of 227 pages in five chapters outlining attribution methods with charts and diagrams to assist in ones effort to determine the die varieties.

One of the most helpful aspects of the book is the last two chapters that are dedicated to the Obverse and Reverse die combinations. Each chapter shows a large photo of the specific Obverse die with its reverse die marriages. The same process is repeated in the next chapter for the Reverse / Obverse die marriages. This book is a great reference for collectors, colonial specialist, and dealers.

The book is 8x11 spiral bound with five chapters totaling 227 pages. It's published and sold by the author and is available at $44.95 w/ $3.95 s&h Michael Demling, PO Box 211, Linwood, NJ 08221

It is a book written by a very good friend of mine. It has great photographs for every known die variety and each obverse/reverse is charted using simple methods so one could attribute their NJ copper without trying to plate match from catalogs. It is not a book on NJ copper history/condition census, but rather a working attribution guide.

Also, there are two chapters after the attribution guides that "replace" the Maris Plate that has photographs of all the obverse and reverse combinations in one place. All the photographs are black and white and are mostly from the Ford sale, other major NJ sales and some from his own reference collection.

It is a great working reference. There is another book on NJ coppers currently being written, about the history, punch linking, minting and condition census of all the NJ varieties which is due out early next year. The book by Mike Demling will be a great addition to that work and is a must have reference for anyone interested in NJ coppers as well as for anyone interested in colonial coinage.

Ive seen the book and know the Author. If you are puzzled by NJ cents....this is your book. One of the things I find most potentially useful are the careful and precise line drawings. Too often true detail in colonials is tough to image, both to source the coins and to have them strong enough to show all the features.

    its a BUY.

I have seen the book, applaud what was clearly a labor of love by the author, and encourage everyone interested in this series to order one!
