Idle question: How many successful bidders in a typical auction?

I got my winnings yesterday from the latest Coin Galleries auction. Just a couple of lots, nothing worth posting here.
It got me wondering, though... How many successful bidders does a auction house have to deal with, following each auction? Suppose there are 1000 lots in the auction. If every bidder wins two lots, that's 500 separate people for the auction house to deal with. There must be some bidders winning only a single lot. I'd guess there are "big buyers" who buy hundreds of lots at a time?
The exact answer will be different for every auction. I'm not looking for anything exact. Maybe there's a rule of thumb floating about?
(Another way to ask the same question: on average, how many lots does a winning bidder win?)
Just wondering...
