And if Alex Smith can lead the Niners to the playoffs this year I'll consider taking back all the derrogatory things I've said and written about him over the years. It'll take a while but I want him to prove 80% of the Bay Area wrong.

i'd like to see what the team can do for 60 minutes, on both sides of the ball!image

their STeam's are so much improved over last year, too.

i've always felt Smith was star-crossed, until possibly now.

give Philly some "credit" for missing a few FG's late (one after a holding penalty put them back) and fumbling late in the game.image

    Alex Smith is a mystery.

In college he was a cog in a system run by Urban Meyer at Utah and his stats were great.

Prior to this year his NFL career has been underwhelming and disappointing. However, the 49rs have been a mess during his time there. An almost yearly change in offensive coordinators with new offenses installed each year. Further prior to Harbaugh being hired last Feb.-March as head coach, the head coaches Smith has played for have not been offensive minded coaches.

Will Smith have his best year this year, lead the 49rs tot he playoff and redeem himself?

Who knows. He played lousy the first half yesterday and he was great the second half.

Some Bay Area sports talk fans are talking, texting and tweeting today that Smith should be named to the Pro Bowl this year. Cart before the horse if you ask meimage

The 49rs could easily be 1-3 instead of 3-1.

Harbaugh likes ball control and time management.

i don't know the stats for yesterday's game but i'm sure he (Harbaugh) had to open it up a little after half-time. when Harbaugh was at Stanford that was his game plan and he had the horse and the cart.

yes they could very easily be 1-3 ......or 4-0image

    Pro-Bowl? i agree i don't think so either.

Neither do I. I mean, Smith is clearly not a bust on the Ryan Leaf/JaMarcus Russell level, but he has been disappointing so far. But I think some of that has been organizational and with his supporting cast and I think he can still turn into a pretty good QB. He's no Drew Brees, but don't forget that Brees was fairly disappointing in his first 2-3 years with San Diego before he stuck around and became elite. I don't think Smith can get to that level, but I think he's better than what we've seen so far, and Brees is an example that someone who disappointed early can still become a solid NFL QB.
