Wipe away toning....I've got some too !

After reading a recent thread wherein the album toning on some old dimes came right off with a thumb wipe,
I got curious about some junk silver I had up on the mantle. These coins had toned up nicely in less than a year, sitting up
on the wooden mantle over the fireplace. Well, I took the thumb to a couple. And what do you know, no more toning !
The first two were a pair of seated half dimes made into ear rings, polished with silver polish about a year ago by a
jewelery making friend, the other was a dipped 8 reales, and the third was an original looking F/VF Morgan.
So, since I don't recall anyone else saying that they'd seen this before I thought I'd chime in. It's counter intuitive to wipe ones coins with
a thumb, so I suppose it's possible that there is alot more of this kind of toning going on than I would have thought.....
I don't suppose any of you Monster Toner guys would be willing to do a little test on one or two of those neon beauties we see here from time to time ?
