Ft Myers, Florida area:

I am investigating a coin burglary. The victim had been taken to Hope Hospice and his family just got into town and discovered the theft from the residence.

I apologize in advance about the poor descriptions, but the victim's daughter could not supply any further information to me.

    Kerikow, I would suggest reporting this to the Numismatic Crime Information Center at their website: http://www.numismaticcrimes.org

    They have had some success in helping to solve these crimes.

    An authorized PCGS dealer, and a contributor to the Red Book.

    Good luck in your endeavor to catch these guys.
    Assuming you've notified local S. Fl dealers and nothing turns up, there is 3 day show scheduled in Lakeland FL next week.
    You may want to put the word out there to be on the lookout for these particular coins.

    I appreciate the help, I might drive up to Lakeland. I contacted NCIC also.

    My suspects have very limited if any coin knowledge, just criminals preying on an elderly man on his death bed.

    A few years ago some meth head broke into my apartment and stole my entire collection (except a few Lincoln pennies and some Ikes ... go figure). They caught the guy but didn't retrieve a single coin.

    Sucks big time. Hope you catch the freak!

    I have recovered two of the stolen coins. They were sold to a B&M in Naples, Florida. The B&M did a great job, got me surveillence footage and a name.

    If anyone has any coin contacts in the Naples area, please email to them the list.

    Have you contacted eBay to see if they would assist in contacting the sellers of the auctions for records of the transactions? The sellers might have records of what they sold with certification numbers. Just an idea.

    Seller feedback of your first coin shows he sold at least three 1882 CC morgan's in the last 90 days.
    To further research, do an adanced ebay search, select "items from seller (type in seller's name)" then click on seller's feedback number to see all feeback and associated sales. You may find it where seller received or gave feedback for the purchase. go down the list until you find your coin bought by your victim's ebay ID. You can only go back the last ninety days to see the actual listings. Otherwise ebay message each seller from one of seller's current listings, explain situation and see if he can help you with cert number from his records.

    I made one arrest today in reference to this case. My break came when I made contact with Gary Lewis and he sent my list of stolen coins out to his contacts. Harty Mercer of Naples Coin called me, after seeing the list and gave me my suspect on videotape selling the $5 indian and the boone commem.

    I have yet to recover any other coins, which depresses me, but I am not done looking yet.

    Sorry to hear what happened to that collector,
    also being from SW Fla myself [ Naples ].

    I would find out who is going to be running the Sarasota
    Coin Show on Oct 28, 29 & 30. He might be able
    to circulate that list.

    Last weekend there was another show in Lakeland
    and maybe someone knows who ran that show and
    again, a list could be sent to the table holders.

    I'm off to Pittsburgh within an hour or so - and I'll
    keep my eyes peeled.
