For baseball I would say 1980 or 81 is tough. Centering issues with both years.

1997 and 1998 OPC branded Basketball is out there, but most people don't even realize it was produced.

I agree with Al on the 1988 Topps Cloth and the 1985 Topps minis.

I didn't know these existed at all! Did you put the whole set together, because that's impressive. Gotta be tough to find the Canadian Topps BB boxes.

I love OPC baseball. I'm not sure what the toughest is, but all the 1980's OPC wax/vending Ive opened has been brutal. I opened a 1986 OPC bb vending case recently and did not turn up a single gradable star card. I've opened '83, '85, '86, '87, '88, '89 wax with essentially no luck. I have an '83 OPC Gwynn rookie in a PSA 10 that is probably my favorite 80's card. Looking for a Sandberg now.

It wasn't terribly hard, the OPC cards were 1:6 Topps packs (One card in every 6 packs) if I remember right, they looked identical but had a OPC gold foil logo instead of Topps. it wasn't even all Canadian retail that had them, only specially marked stuff. I sold a few cards around $100 and a lot around $30. Any player that had a player collector following sold well, and since I sold them in a short period of time I think the bidding went higher as player collectors saw what other players were selling for. I think Jeff Hornacek went for like $50.

1980 Topps Test Coins would be the hardest and 1980 Pepsi [issued by Topps] would be the second hardest.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Has anybody got a checklist for those 1980 Topps Coins? I am specifically wanting to know which (if any) Cardinals are in this set.

You are safe Shane...there are only 3...R Jackson, Carew and Garvey. But, They can be found in different colors, such a "gold" and bronze, and with or without holes drilled in them ( likely for a chain)

I have a bronze set, but also have one of the "gold" Jacksons

Football: 1987 Topps UK/American MINI football is tuff. It was only available in the UK with no factory sets.

    My PSA Set
  • There are three players in the 1980 Topps Coins Test set; Reggie Jackson, Steve Garvey and Rod Carew. Currently, there's an auction on eBay that has the only know presentation board in existence. Asking price is pretty darn high.

Learn something new every day - had never even heard of the 1985 Topps Minis before this thread. Crazy stuff.

What is 1984 Topps Encased? That's another I've never heard of - and there's nothing on Ebay that I can find.

The 1984 Encased set is really a proof set with blank backs. The fronts are similar to the regular 1984 cards except the pictures in the small box on the front are contained entirely in the box ( encased) rather than extending outside like the regular issue. They can be found in singles and in uncut sheets. They are not proofs for the regular issue because you can find blank back proofs for that year with the regular fronts. There are 66 of them and another oddity is that on the cards for Carlton and Gary Mathews the heads in the box are switched...and Manny Trillo appears as an Indian unlike the regular set.

The 85 Minis number 132 and can be finished as a set with regular or blank backs. I also has about half the set in all red backs ( no green ink). Not sure if it can be finished that way. The Ryan is the most expensive card in the set, with Schmidt 2nd.. In putting my sets together I bought most from Canadian sellers

OK, with that description, I was able to find some on Ebay and now clearly see the difference. Thanks!
