Ugh! From what I understand they are 'collectables', not money. Good luck and keep us updated.

For decades I have sent coins and other items via USPS insured. Over the years a few have gone missing.
The proper claim forms were filed along with the associated paperwork showing the value (an invoice will do just fine) and the claims paid at full insured value.
    Can't imagine why you're having a problem.

I had to file a claim a few months ago for a graded Morgan Dollar that first was missing then turned up at the post office ripped open and missing the contents and when I submitted the claim I submitted a copy of the ebay auction and they paid me what it was insured for which was about $100.00 Was a easy claim and no problems. You must submit proof of value of some sort. Which in my case was the Ebay auction

The first insurance claim is decided in-house.
File an appeal. That will go to a district office.

anything to NOT pay the claim. welcome to the us government and america
  • I have had 2 out of many hundreds of coin packages get lost. They were insured for the actual sale amount and I had no difficulty getting the insurance payment.

The $15/max makes no sense unless you sold them for $15 ..can't insure for more than they are worth as collectables.

    Just sounds weird...

NOT!!! But I am not sure that their ability to go on strike has to do with anything... Do you remember the Air Traffic Controllers? They went on an informal strike and all got fired! image

Let's put it this way... they are an agency of the US Govt, but they are not your typical government operation. Notice they are a .com on the web not a .gov!

The Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service sets policy, procedure, and postal rates for services rendered, and has a similar role to a corporate board of directors.

In 2004, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a unanimous decision that the USPS was not a government-owned corporation, and therefore could not be sued under the Sherman Antitrust Act.[23]

Did you notice that Postal vehicles do not have license plates?

    Here is the answer:
U.S. Postal Service Publication #122 Dated October 2010 (page 8)

    .

    Click for USPS Publication

Print out a copy and take it to your post office. I had this problem once and had to do their job for them. This is what I did:

I filed the claim and it was paid. The guy was adamant about coins not being insurable. He disputed what the postal regulation stated. I think I finally got his attention when I told him: "You're supposed to be the resident expert here. You should be embarrassed that I'm having to train you in your job!"

This is what page 8 states:
" The fair market value of stamps and coins of philatelic or numismatic value, as determined by a recognized stamp or coin dealer or
current coin and stamp collector’s newsletter and trade paper. '
