1981 Wrestling All Stars Hulk Hogan And 1978 ric flair hand cut cards

I just picked these up. I really hope psa will slab these. They slab the 1973 cards that I think are the same set so I think they should. These looked cut really well to me. The hogan has what I'm hoping is just a slight tilt and not miscut. I know the paper handcut cards don't appeal to everyone... Buy I think they would look great in a psa slab. These could save me from having t pay up for the 82 all star cards.

I think you made a really good move. If these are slabbed they will sell for a great deal more then you paid. If not you bought them at a fraction of prior sale prices.

i was expecting to pay much more. I'll post some scans when i get them. I tried to upload the pics that were on ebay but couldn't get them in photobucket. There is a psa authentic 73 andre the giant on ebay that is selling for over 60 bucks with a few days left and the card looks like it is cut way to small. i'm hoping these turn out to be a great pick up.

The Andre card comes from the 1973 paper cards and is actually about a 1/3 of the size of these. I definately think you should try and get them slabbed and I promise you can sell them for two to three times your cost or they will make great additions to your personal collection and a very nice cost basis.

Good luck they do look very nice. I feel bad for the seller as this venture takes a great deal of time and his results were awful. I sold my Hogan for $100 and the Flair for $65. I won an Andre for a $0.99 that I had sold for $36 when I ran the first set break of these.

I still have the original 1973 magazine, haven't gotten a good bite on it yet.

Is there any other instance that anyone can cite in which regular pages in magazines can be turned into "cards"? I know there is a whole genre of SI for Kids style cards from magazine inserts, but in all other cases the cards have different paper stock than the magazine itself. I'm just wondering if this is precedent setting for all sports, and if so, what else could be eligible to be considered "cards"?

I think you should cut the cards and get them slabbed to sell them. If you could get a high number grade on the andre you could prob get more than what you are asking for the entire magazine.

Does anyone know if the 78 and 81 cards are from the same magazine as the 73?

Dpeck would know the answer, I think he told me that he had the 1978 magazine complete.

Victory sports was the publisher of the first two and I don't think the 1981 set but I will try and check. I still have the cover of that one.

Becuase these are not really card stock I doubt you can get a grade assigned. The two graded from the 73 paper cards just say authentic.

Yes the 1973 was a Victory Sports Magazine and so is the 1978. The 1981 goes under the title Wrestling Superstars.

Here is the cover to the 1981 Set with the Hogan.

I just checked Wrestlingtradingcards.com and all are from the same publisher GC London Publishing Corp so while the magazine titles are different it was the same company making all of them.

Just did a littl more research on these... Are these cards oversized too? They looked like they wer about the size of a regular trading card in the pics

They are much larger then a regular sized trading card. I think they are 4 x 6 or so. The 1973 cards are more similar in size to a standard trading card.

I just got the "cards" today. I'm really impressed with how well the seller cut the cards. I think they look great. Hopefully i can get them slabbed. I just sent the question to psa.

    Those look really great!

The seller did an excellent job for sure cutting the cards.

The biggest issue to me that makes them look so strong is the paper stock still looks great!!! Many of the older magazines pages tend to have a browning affect and this appears to be very clean and original looking.

If you could get these slabbed not only will they make a great collectable but you will certainly be in a position to profit from your recent purchase. Your cost basis with grading fees will be fantastic.

Good luck and I hope this works out for you!

The hogan has some yellowing and a very slight tilt. If it were to get graded I would guess it would be either a 8st or 9 st. The flair is really sharp and should be a 9 with a shot at a 10..... That is if they get graded at all. Im not sure what I'm going to do with them. I'm not really a fan of over sized or handcut cards but I'm really impressed with how the cards look.

In no way am I trying to dimish your buy. I do agree though that I am not a huge fan of hand cut or over sized cards like you mention. I like traditional card stock the best.
