GORGEOUS 1879/8 Proof Shield. In an OGH, cert #6274588. Labeled PR64, this coin will upgrade. Wonderful original PRIMARY tone, no hairlines or marks, with a small planchet flaw just above the 5. I wouldn't be surprised to see this come back in 66 holder, and worth every point. $800 OUT FOR REGRADE

image
1871 3 Cent Nickel, in a OGH #6274582, same description as for the Shield. AN ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS coin. $900 OUT FOR REGRADE

And another, 1881 OGH Proof 64 3 Cent nickel cert # 6274581. Ditto on this one, it's BEAUTIFUL. $700 OUT FOR REGRADE

image
And yet another, 1872 Shield, though this brilliant and graded Proof 63, OGH cert #6274590. Undergraded by at least a point. $450 ON HOLD (AND OUT FOR REGRADE)

Check the cert numbers on these. They were submitted together nearly 25 years ago, and remained together until I bought them today. All are outstanding. Next one is from the same owner, but an earlier submission.

1867 3 Cent Nickel OGH Proof 63, cert #2557503. Mostly brilliant with a touch of haze, and moderate Cameo contrast. It IS a 64. $450 (OUT FOR REGRADE)

An excellent example for Type, this 1891 Seated Quarter, PCGS MS64, is simply outstanding. Very clean, with just a few tics scattered here and there, and a tiny bit of planchet roughness beneath the Eagle's beak and left (facing) wing. Great luster over both sides, strike is a bit soft on the stars starting at 10:00 and going clockwise, very well defined otherwise. The toning is wonderful, and, in my opinion, primary and not secondary. Vivid turquoise/seagreen blue at the rims and bright varied shades of amber surrounding silvery central devices. In an older blue holder (cert is 14815225), I think this would grade higher upon resubmission. A beautiful coin. $1225 (OUT FOR REGRADE)

1897 P Barber Quarter PCGS MS62 Obverse a touch hazy in front of the portrait, brilliant reverse. $300

1952 P Franklin PCGS MS65FBL Beautiful speckled red/gold/amber mint set tone, nice luster $125

1929 P Standing Liberty Quarter ANACS MS63 (old white holder, cert # 719594) A wonderfully original coin with great color at the rims and glassy silvery centers. A few tics on Ms Lib's legs are the reason for the grade, no matter how undeserving. No friction down the leg as often seen on even much higher graded coins, and a very nice strike, though falling short of a full head. An excellent coin, priced @ MS64 bid. $265.

1923 S Monroe Commem PCGS MS63. An excellent original coin. These seem to either be washed out and ugly or deeply toned and ugly, even in high grades (with a pricetag to accompany). This one is neither. Light original specs of tone here and there with well struck, silvery centers (pics show more tan than is present). Priced at, and deserving of, MS64 money. $205

1936 PDS Rhode Island set PCGS MS64/65/64. Another wonderfully original set of coins. Absolutely matched, and undeniable soulmates for the past 75 years, probably in their original cardboard holder up until the early 2000s when they were sequentially holdered by PCGS. Nice glassy luster on each mint, and much more silvery in hand than shows in the pics. A great set. $500

1895 Barber quarter PCGS Genuine. Coded "94" for "altered Surfaces". When I first looked at this under fluorescent light, it was so glossy, I immediately thought, "oh, it's lacquered". However, after inspection under some reveals with a glass, I see absolutely no reason this did not grade AU58, and given a star ( if PCGS did such things) for eye appeal. A beautiful, lustrous and well struck better date. Priced @ MS60 bid. $290.

1931 D Lincoln Cent ICG MS64RD. Again, appropriately graded. This is a very underrated and scarce date in Mint State. While the original mintage may be five times that of the '31S, the population reports show that this date in 64RD and higher is five times as scarce as the '31S. With a PCGS Pop of just 196 in 64RD, and 171 higher (396 in ALL Mint State grades combined), this date should humble the '31S, which has a pop of 1187 in 64RD and 824 higher, with nearly 2200 graded in all mint state grades combined. Think there's a bunch out there raw, waiting to be graded? I seriously doubt it. Nice red coin with very few marks and good luster. Some faint freckling limiting the grade. Tough coin, with a PCGS priceguide listing @ $375 (the '31S lists @$400). $250

1860 O Seated Half Dime. Currently in a DGS holder graded AU58 with the notation "Cleaned and Retoned". Such a blunt assessment gives no credit to how special this coin appears to be. The strike, color, and luster are simply amazing. Searching through the Heritage archives and PCGS Coinfacts, this 1860 O has better eye appeal (IMO) than either the NGC 67* (Heritage) or the PCGS 67 (Coinfacts). Of course, pictures are no definitive substitute for in hand viewing, and while the two 67s may look better in hand, the offered example absolutely does. There are some hairlines on both sides, but if this were a proof of the same era, the grade would probably be 64. This coin looks to be, at the very least, mint state, and one of the first coins off the dies, surfaces appearing quite prooflike. Being that 1860 was a transitional year for the design, it isn't a long leap to the possibility that this is a presentation piece, cherished for generations by descendants of the recipient, and more recently, housed for many decades in a Wayte Raymond (?) album. Simply, one of the most appealing Half Dimes out there. $1500

1842 Seated Dime. DGS AU58 notated "Cleaned and Retoned". Looking like a long term companion to the 1860 O above, this 1842 has outstanding eye appeal. While the grade here may be accurate, the cleaning is very light and not detracting in the least. The outstanding eye appeal cannot be denied. Beautiful. $500
