Obtaining high school athletes autographs.

What extra steps would you take to ensure credibility and authenticity down the line? I know, it's a bit creepy dealing with a high schooler, but we have some real good contacts with the top rated receiver in the country and an opportunity to get some things signed.

It may be a waste of money, and probably a good chance of it, but it could also be a cool thing to have down the line.

What would you get signed, and if anything can be signed along with it, what would you have written? Date, name of high school team, uniform number?

Most definitely....But he's over here at the house quite often with my son, and has actually brought up the idea, since he knows my hobby.

Even though it does sound a bit creepy, it might not hurt to get something signed (my vote would be a GU jersey or ball).

Living in LeBron's back yard, I sort of regret not going to see him play and getting stuff signed when he was in high school.

Tell him to finish High School and enjoy College. If he is still a star player in his senior year, then he can worry about signing autographs for money. Just my opinion, but I don't think people should fill his head with that stuff.

You have to be really careful, if you attempt anything that could be considered even marginally profit-seeking you could cause the young man some eligibility problems. We've seen that in the NCAA where teams end up forfeiting games thanks to over indulgent alumni.

I got the autographs of all the players on my son's midget football team, the Wotco Lions.
Sure, they're just 5th graders, but many of them have a legit shot of making it big in the sport. (Their left tackle is going to be a stud in the pros!)
I thought it was inappropriate to pay them cash for their autos, so I promised to get them into an R-rated movie instead.
  • being a high school coach this is just odd... like others have said let the kid prove himself before he starts signing autographs. There is no way this kid should be charging for his auto probably a for sure violation, with all the scandals in major college football you could be doing serious harm if his college finds out about this.

    Video record him signing everything.

Give him cash on said video recording.

Blackmail him in college if he does indeed breakout. ( If he goes to Miami U maybe make some money off some shady boosters w/ video)

    -Profit

Other than this I have nothing else. Going to be pretty hard to prove that his sig is legit since 6 years or so from now if he goes pro it will probably change quite a bit.

Accepting money for signing autos in high school is not violating any NCAA rule because technically he's not in college yet. High school kids are allowed to work just like anyone else is. This would only be a violation if he were already a student at the college. The time period while he's in high school, but has signed a letter of intent to join the college.....thats probably a grey area.
