So I was working a trade show

I was working a trade show for a customer today. I knew that they would have a few "celebs" there. Usually never anyone I would care to meet. Well I learned that the booth next to me would have Jerome Bettis signing autographs for free. I had nothing to get signed, several people were given footballs at a banquet last night for autographs. I offered to buy a ball from several people but no luck. I jumped in line on my lunch break, right when I got to the front of the line a guy walked up to me and asked if I still needed a ball. I thanked him and he would not take anything in return.

Here are a couple of pics taken with my crappy phone

I was very excited about this, because Bettis was a very cool guy to meet and very engaging with everyone and seemed to actually enjoy being there.

  • Morning,

Question about Autographs. I think it is awesome that a Superstar like Bettis is signing Auto's for Free (And I think they should all do it for Free), but why does somebody like Bettis with his stature come to a show and sign for Free and yet at other Venues (National+) you get some Yahoo who played a normal lackluster career and is demanding $40-$150 for signing something and then has Rules out the Ying-Yang as to what they'll sign, how they'll sign it, when they'll sign it, for how long they'll sign it........? And for the most part are A$$ wipes about it with their attitude !!!

    Don't Get It !!!

Bettis didn't show up or sign for free. He was paid by the Peak company to show up and sign for people. Bettis isn't going to a baseball card show to sign autographs unless somebody pays him.

Yep, being on a non profit board of directors for a community athletic complex 1 or 2 times a year we book a former major league ball player for
a youth tournament. They are more than willing to come and sign autographs for kids and VIP sponsors, but the fees are steep. I bet Bettis
was $10,000 to $15,000 or more to be at that trade show.
  • It was pretty cool of the guy to walk up and give you the football at the last minute. You must have had some built-up karma going. Great story and pics. I'm glad to hear that he was so nice with everyone.
