to me it looks like the "Steve" in the middle is preprinted on the flier, and Mr. Boardner just added his last name.
Merrill/Meril Combs was a player for the Oakland Oaks of PCL in the late 40s, I have a few cards of his (1948 Signal Gas, 1948 Smith's Clothing, etc.), he also played some in the MLB under "Merl Combs". He was from the LA area too.
The Camiff/Canniff is a strange one, nothing comes up at all with good searches, youd think an Olympian is somewhere on the internet, and its a vintage sig (like all of them) and easy to read (unlike the unreadable crap these overpaid clowns scribble nowadays).
I can read almost every one well, I dont have the time now w/my slow jungle internet, but if you google them as you see them they might hit something baseball or hollywood

I agree....strange one. I found an Olympic site with (what i think) is a complete roster for the games and it's broken down by sport also. I went through 400 some odd listings and even checked Canada looking for something similar to match this one to. I suppose a name could have slipped by, but you'd think an Olympian name would pop up somewhere on a search.
