Peyton Manning rc questions...

My sister's shopping early for Christmas and wants to get her husband one. I'm going to try to help her out since she knows nothing about cards. Hopefully you guys can help us since I know nothing about football cards image

What's considered his rookie?

Her budget is $100 (less is better) is this possible?

Graded would be nice, but not necessary.

Thanks a ton!

  • This is a very general question and has many good answers but in my opinion buy a 1998 Finest Peyton Manning psa 10. You can get this card under $100. Its good because it is graded a perfect 10 so you know its a nice authentic card. Its probably his most popular rookie card since its been graded the most. And it is a nice looking rookie card. Anyone who likes Manning would have this particular rookie card. Hope that helps.
I'm always looking for more Maddux psa 10's:

  • The SPx Finite's are really nice, there is the one SP variation, but the other two in the set can be had fairly cheap ($10-$30) and look really nice...

His best rookie is 1998 sp authentic but that will run you a couple hundred. I would go for topps chrome. I think topps and topps chrome have the best potential hold or increas their value. I collected football cards in the late 80s early 90s and started to get back into the hpoby a few years ago. There were just to many brands to keep up with so I decided not to bother with anything other than topps chrome. If topps chrome didn't make a key rookie card like brady or romo then I go for bowman chrome. That's just my opinion though.

  • Speaking of Manning....does anyone think this is the best time to get one of his high-end graded RC's? Does anyone see them being cheaper anytime in the future?

Someone I know recently wanted to get a good Peyton RC. We narrowed it to the three top mid-tier rookies--Topps Chrome, Leaf Rookies and Stars, and Upper Deck--which all had a Beckett value of $50, I think the highest price any of his rookies have under $100. We then pulled up pictures of all three and looked at them.

After looking at the cards, we decided the Leaf Rookies and Stars was the most attractive card. Additionally, Leaf Rookies and Stars had a strong reputation as a quality rookie card product in the late 1990s/early 2000s era.

When someone isn't a hardcore collector and just want a single card of a player, I think they should go for the best-looking card in the price range they want because, to them, it's just a piece of cardboard with a picture on it, so the more attractive the picture is, the more they will like it.

    Some of my favorites:

1998 Ultra RC #201 - This card in PSA 10 sells for a little under $100.

    1998 Topps Chrome # 165 - A little under $100 in a 10.

    1998 Bowman Chrome #1 - Another card under $100 in a PSA 10.

1998 Finest #121 - Another great looking card. Can be had for around $50 in a 10.

1998 Stadium Club #195 - Finally, a card with an in-game shot. Usually sells for around $50 in a 10.

  • I have gone with the Upper Deck in my personal collection. It seemed at the time to have the highest value/demand of the non-autographed issues. That was a few years ago, to be honest, I have been thinking about replacing it with the Topps Chrome card. I might spend a few extra bucks and get the refractor version. I figure I will wait till he is done playing and go for his contenders card at that time.
