What every happened to Pacific Trading Cards?

MacrosB post on the buy, sell, trade forum got me thinking...What every happened to Pacific Trading Cards?

Growing up in Seattle in the late 70's and through the 80's Pacific Trading Cards and Mike Cramer was a huge player in the business...to the point of producing his own cards with an NFL license. I remember buying wax boxes for $5 each at his annual sale to make room for more inventory. I remember the big aution house in town sold off all his printing equipment 10 or more years ago. I had heard he made his money in crabbing and then toured the country buying cards. Tony

  • I'm not positive. I think they went out of business.

  • I did like Pacific. They produced some nice greats sets, and a nice series of Nolan Ryan sets.

They sank in the in the ocean they were named after! Actually, I dont know if it was a licensing thing or not.

They lost their baseball and football licenses, and their hockey license wsan't sufficient for them to survive financially.

  • It seems to me that I saw them at the 2004 NHL FANtasy set up and shortly afterwards they were done.

They were a nice dealer to work with in the 80s especially for picking up cheap FB cases. Then like alot of people they got sucked into producing sets when it got to like 25 different manufacturers producing cards.

I seem to recall they lost a couple of licenses when they were found to have used questionable jersey swatches in some cards. That left them with just their NHL license and that wasn't enough.

I like a lot of their stuff - some really, really nice-looking cards.

And I'm working on their patch subset from their NFL 2001 Atomic set. Great cards.

  • Anyone know how the 1990 Pacific Legends Glossy set was offered? Sets, packs etc.

Trying to help gather info for a collector trying to track down 1 card from the set.
