Anyone got a 2011 Krause?

Just wondering about the silver content of a Bank of Nauru 10 Dollars 2011, with "We will remember them" on one side.

Got one of those stupid offers in the mail and wondering if it's the bait and worth more the $10 it would cost, would be happy to get it and ignore the phonecalls and junk mail I'd get trying to rip me off on other 'offers'. But need to know if it has more silver than $10 worth.

Thanks for any help,
Andrew

  • Sorry, seems like I've answered my own question by googling it, found this thread in another forum:

    Here

Looks like it's only 5g silver, I'd already worked out that it's obviously not legal tender in any country with a currency that's worth anything.

Editied to add: I just posted this thread before I got the reply image

Macquarie Mint isn't making too much profit on these coins. It is indeed "bait", with the aim of getting you on their mailing list. But Macquarie Mint's marketing strategy is far less... voluntary... than phone calls and junk mail. Once they've got your credit card details and mailing address, they'll start sending you more coins, one a month. Coins you did not expect and did not order, which will cost you twice the price you would have paid for them if you'd ordered them direct from Perth Mint, RAM, North Korea or wherever else the coin-of-the-month came from. They will charge you on your credit card for them before they send them. If you decide you don't want them, you've got to send them back, at your cost.

At least, that's what happened to my dad when he answered a Macquarie Mint ad a few years ago. I assume they haven't changed their business model in the past couple of years.

Meanwhile, as has been pointed out, the coin is not actually legal tender in Nauru. Nauru has never issued legal tender coins. Which makes me wonder why there are three pages of "Nauru coins" in my Krause.

Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.
