Online sources for Canadian Coins?

I have long had an interest in Canadian coinage but I never really got started. I am thinking I would like to now. Can anyone recommend good online sources for Canadian and associated coinage?

Each issue is chock full of advertisers.
eBay is also a good place to look.
One problem is that the exchange rate favors the Canada dollar, another is that shipping from some sellers can be pricey.
  • I agree with the CoinGeezer , ebay can be excellent for Canadian coins and tokens if you like them raw.Ive not purposely ever bought a Canadian copper but iv'e ended up with 4 or 5 really fine ones from auction lots that were chucked in basically free.

They this guy, I haven't bought from him in years but he always had conservative grading.

Any particular denomination or monarch? Raw or slabbed? Circ or UNC or Proof, etc.?

I've sold off most of my hoard but still have a few boxes of dupes mostly Victorian copper and 5c silvers.

  • Most TPG graded Canadian coins sold from Canada are graded by ICCS.
While ICCS is not an eBay approved TPG, it is highly respected by collectors of Canadian coinage.
They are extremely conservative in their grading.
Unfortunately they do NOT have a web site, a fact that puzzles many.

Depending on what you are looking for, other Forum members are also a good source of material.... I myself have some extra raw, mostly-circulated (I have a few in original plastic as well) coins from Cents thru Twonies that I would be happy to swap or sell, if you're interested. Just drop me a PM.

Otherwise, the sources others have listed are very good as well.

Thank you all for your suggestions. At the moment I am mostly interested in 20th century lower denominations but I don't really know enough about what's out there to say precisely what I am interested in.

My advice is to buy the Charlton catalog, subscribe to Canadian coin news, and join the RCNA. You can do all for about $100. Once you have done all of that, take some time to figure out what you want to collect and what in grades you want to collect them.

There are many dealers of circulated Canadian coins. As stated above CCN can point them out to you. If you don't know them, I would favor the dealers who are members of the Canadain Assoc. of Numismatic Dealers (CAND), primarily because of their ethics code and dispute policy.

If you think you want to go high end, get to know Sandy Campbell (Proof Positive Coins), Hugh Powell (NewCan Coins), Charles Moore (Moore Numismatic Auctions), and Heritage Auctions. There are others, but those will get you started.

There a couple of good websites. www.jandm.com is an interesting place to rummage around. The website listed in my sigline has a page of links to many others.

Good luck. I think you will like the greyside.
