Mailing a box to PSA with an express submission inside

So I bring my box with a serious Mantle card down to the USPS to mail to PSA. So the card is really well packed in a very sturdy box...Since it's express service...I write express on the sides of the package.....the postal worker was like...um "NO". He and she said it would get mixed up with express mail...so instead of telling them in from of everybody about the card I had them put priority mail stickers all over the package to cover up the words "express". I guess the USPS wants me to write "1952 Mantle inside" instead of express. Not sure what to say about this. I hope my sub doesn't take forever for loggage.

  • You can't always win... Sadly I know if you write a service on their you need to pay that service level (for the post office).

    Tell PSA to rename express!

Actually, I can see their point..."if i work for the post office and I see a box with "Express" written on the sides of the box, I'm thinking it's probably Express Mail as well.

  • A question not asked yet is. Why wouldn't you send that card express? If I were to send a card of that magnitude. I would want it express overnight to PSA fully insured. My theory is why have it traveling around in the USPS hands when I could be right at PSA's door the next day. The less time it is in the postal workers hands the less chance it has in getting damaged. I would also want the card expressed/insured back to me as well. Added bonus you could write express on the outside of the package for both PSA and USPS.

That's exactly what I was thinking... whenever I have a card even worth more than $500, it goes inside an Express Mail package. If I had a 1952 Topps Mantle to send it, I would fly it to Newport Beach with the card in my hand. image

I was exaggerating about the 52 Mickey but it was a very nice Mantle in the 50's.

Mickey....different Post Offices handle things differently. You could go to two different ones and get totally different answers. I would think a way around that would be to write "EXPRESS GRADING SERVICE" on the box.
  • Funny you bring this up. I sent my first package (in a medium size USPS Priority flat rate box) to PSA using the super express service on Monday. I too write express service on the package with a bold black marker. My package is now sitting in Albany New York. how it got there I have no idea. Oh, didn't I mention I live in Anaheim CA, which is 20 minutes from PSA.....

Went to the Post Office yesterday to say "WTF" and they were no help. said it would eventually get to PSA....sometimes sh_t happens...

Don't really think writing "super express" on the package had anything to do with it, but knowing couple thousand worth of cards is touring the country is upsetting!!!
