Proof 1876 CC Half?

MeltdownMeltdown Posts: 9,293 ✭✭✭✭✭
This was an auction I was watching earlier last week. I had planned on throwing a bid at it near the end but I was seriously blown out of the water... It seems a couple other bidders knew what this was. I was hoping to score myself a nice little cherrypick. My guess is that the seller did not know what he had here...

I won it, and with a considerable margin over the underbidder.

It'll be a nice prooflike BU, probably a 64. However, I highly doubt it's any sort of specimen strike, let alone a proof.

Looks like a nice coin, but not a proof. If it makes it in a 64 holder you will do great image

Looks like a pretty half! I like the blue-ish toning in the eagle's wings and in Liberty's clothing...

There are 1876-CC dimes struck in what I call Proof, in both silver and copper, so a half dollar is not inconceivable, but I could not make that call from a picture.

No offense Will, but I don't see this as an MS coin!

And it definitely isn't a proof!!!

To qoute an old saying popular on these boards. "Their is no Santa Claus in numismatics!"

I sure hope it is proof like. That coin looks to have zero luster, and unattractively retoned in a envelope after a dip. I hope it turns out to be bad pics.

The images are not that great, but the coin looks like it could be all there. It's hard to tell if there is rub on the obv, but the rev looks 64. Now ... where's that luster hiding? image

Lots of P-L coinage from Carson City in this period.

Rounded rims, probably a nice MS. But if not you have 14 days to return.

I agree with GEN, The tone tells you everything you need to know and I see a Choice UNC as well.
