Still alive and kicking. When our posse leader Watersport took a break, no one grabbed the reigns. We're always lurking in the shadows looking for the next great MPL.
I think the coming of the 2009 cents and the hope the cent would end or drive a new induced frenzy of Lincoln collectors drove a bit of the Matte fever. Needless to say, neither happened and only exceptional mattes command prices now which only 2 years ago were going up on a monthly basis. Tonight I saw a 1910 PR 63 BRN on Ebay for a BIN of $595...Folks would have been tripping over each other to get ANY matte at $595. In fact, we lost a few Matte collectors who simply got priced out. But yes, the Posse is always in the stable waiting to be called out!

well there is a supposed 1909 VDB proof in an ANACS holder for $17,500 up on eBay right now
They defintely aren't getting daily talk on the forum, but for the really nice examples, prices charged by dealers are as strong as ever (and so are the prices collectors are willing to pay). About the only thing that has changed is that average examples and below have experienced a major price drop and deservedly so.
Michael, I don't see ANY 1909VDB MPL currently for sale on Ebay. Regarding the MPL demand, it is obviously down from the frenzy days.
PQueue, In my opinion, there is a DISTINCTION between the interest and values of the eight MPL's (1909-1916) AND the 1909VDB. THAT coin is just not available for easy purchase by the general public or even the Lincoln cent specialist. It hasn't been available for many years. Sure, if you have five figures plus to spend on it, a specialist dealer can probably get you one, but otherwise it is just auctions or private treaty with individuals that are available. That coin will remain very SPECIAL as far as MPL's go. Steve

Then the RED boys drove the truck there and made it seem all that was good were reds. red 66s.
Then the BN boys wanted their own registry...just for colors....
Then some us got tired of chasing that damn VDB and sold off our sets.
But I dont think all the good coins made it out back into the market. Out of ten, I kept my best two. Im sure others done the same.
Truthfully, I will say that the disgusting 2009 issues played a big part in me losing interest.
Check out the Heritage Pittsburg sale. A nice 1909 VDB MPL is going up for auction.
