What happens to beans when you regrade/crossover coins?
I would assume that the coin would have to be reevaluated by CAC since it would be in a different holder with a possibly different grade, but just wanted to be sure.
On another note, does anybody know if CAC keeps a record of the original cert #s of each & every coin that passes thru, or only those that get a sticker, or none at all? I should think that they get resubmissions just like all the other TPGs, especially if a coin got knocked down a point or more.
With the security plus, the new NGC service, CAC records and Heritage auction archives, in several years a collector should be able to track virtually any coin back through all of it's various grades/pedigrees - not just those that have come from large or well known lots/hoards/collections. I talked to a fairly large dealer at the PANS show last spring, and his thought was that pcgs had been beta-testing the security plus system for a good while before they rolled it out, and that they probably already had a pretty substantial database of coins stored in the computerized 'matrix'.
As it is now, with a few hours (or less) of due diligence you can usually find an auction history for most high end coins that you would consider buying/bidding on. You can find out if & when they got an upgrade, when they switched holders, got beaned, etc....given the rate that technology is advancing, in a few years 'fresh' material should set off alarms when it hits the market.
Just some wondering & wandering thoughts.......
BTW - what happened to keets? I haven't heard from him or seen any posts for a while - we met for a nice lunch at PNC Park earlier this summer. He's like that favorite sweatshirt you pull out every winter - great to see again, and always a comfortable, familiar greeting. We hadn't met in person for over a year, but started right into easy, enjoyable conversation. The afternoon passed much too quickly!

Don't you know that it's worth
every treasure on Earth
to be young at heart?
And as rich as you are,
it's much better by far,
to be young at heart!

Also, CAC only keeps track of stickered coins. No records are kept of which coins did not sticker.
Make a copy of the regrade or crossover submission form showing what the serial number of the coin was when it had a sticker and what line it was submitted on. After the grade results are in, print a copy of the results that show the new serial number. Marry the two together, attach a brief note (that's what I do) and send them and the coin in to CAC. They'll re-sticker it for $3.
(Edited to fix the damn typos.)

I believe CAC keeps records of which coins did not sticker... they just don't publish that list for the general public.

I stand corrected. Just read the FAQ's.

No need to stand... have a seat!
It will save me an awful lot of time & money being able to walk the coins to the booths instead of using registered mail, plus I'll be able to discus what I want on the inserts with a rep and make sure everything is kopasetic.
