Why grade $1 cards? PSA q?

i see all of these cards for sale on ebay that are psa'd and even as psa 8s or 9s aren't worth more than a few bucks. even for a 10, they are maybe a $10 card. so how do you justify the grading when that alone costs more (even with their $5 or $8 specials), more than the value of the card. help me out folks?

They might have been worth more at the time when they were graded.
1989 Donruss Ken Grieffys PSA 8s dont sell for anything now but in 2001 they were like 20.00 now like 3.50-5.00

And maybe they were graded for a player set or a complete graded set, not worrying about the value of the card but more for completing a set

Maybe the person submitting the cards thought they were Gem Mint 10s? I know I've been disappointed on one or two occasions. imageimage

mcadams is right for the cards I collect. If you're putting together a registry set, you generally want to complete the set. So while the common by itself may essentially have no value, you want/need to have it for your set. I may not have said this in the best way but hopefully it makes sense. FWIW, I know lots of people outside the hobby who find it crazy that any card is graded. - Kevin
