What produces best cards? wax, cello, rack?

hey vintage guys, overall, what packs (pre 1980) produce the best condition cards? cello, rack, or wax (assuming the pack itself is in good shape) ?

Thanks

  • Racks will produce the best condition cards.

Cello and wax are a toss up. Cellos can be wrapped tight producing dinged corners
and wax has gum and sometimes can be wrapped tight.

Racks should always be your first choice.

First off, image to the boards!!!

As far as your question goes, racks produce the best cards, then wax, and finally cello. JMHO.

Looking forward to seeing you on the boards some more!!!

Thanks guys, i actually purchased a 76 topps ryan front cello on ebay a few weeks ago and was surprised at just how tight the wrapping was. Didn't open obv, but got my thinking that those cellos just can't be producing the best condition cards.

I know buying old packs to open is mostly a losing venture, but i've got the bug now so i guess i'm thinking rack if the goal is to produce the best cards.

Are you the one to get diveboy to accept your offer? If so, congrats!!! The Ryan was a little off-center but it was a nice looking pack.

Cellos from '73 through '79 are wrapped extremely tight, but you can still pull mint cards if the cards aren't crushed too badly.

Racks are definitely best source for mint cards, though if you know sequencing you can tell who is in pack.

Edit: Did diveboy ever sell that PSA 9 78 cello with Ryan on top? If I recall, he was asking an insanely high amount for it.

I actually made him an offer when he first listed it which ended up being more than what you ended up getting it for. I guess he was a little too greedy for his own good. I'm glad it found a good home.
