Jefferson Nickels 1941-S error??

Hey everyone

Two Jefferson here. First one I believe is a Inverted Mint Mark. The second Jefferson is possibly a Double mint mark

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

There are large and small MM varieties of the 41-S nickel. I believe that's more likely what you have. I think the first one is the large date...but I may be mistaken.

IMHO the doubling on the 2nd coin is mechanical doubling.

I agree the second on is most likely Machine Doubling

I understand what you are saying about the large and small mint mark. That being said I still believe the smaller serif is still on the bottom. This would not be there even with a large or small mint mark. IMHO

The mintmark used for the 1941-S was unique and had a triangular bottom serif which would appear smaller than the top serif if worn. Here are photos of a small S, 41-S Large S, and a post 1941 large S.

Your first coin is definitely a small S and by the looks of it, it could be inverted. However, I am by no means an expert on mintmarks and would wait for someone with more experience on the subject to chime in. The second coins looks like a worn 1941-S Large S with machine doubling to me.

  • The first coin looks to be normal orientation. You could check VarietyVista.com. They have a section on mintmark styles.

The second coin looks to machine doubling.
  • No large S's, not RPM, but #3 not 1 appears to be the IMM variety.

heheh #3 is the image of #2 ... inverted image
  • I am sorry I was not trying to confuse anyone. I was just trying to provide an alternate angle and view for the second Jefferson. The second Jefferson is indeed machine doubling. The IMM Jefferson is this one

  • Oh, you flipped the image, so it was indeed inverted, LOL. No it is not the INV M M
