I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

<< <i>Lee you are so good. The top Ike is a 1976 P and the bottom Ike is a 1972-D. I wanted to hide the date as I do think the 1976 is a peg leg. I do not think a 1976 P peg leg is listed but I could be wrong. Now that you know the date and mint mart would you still say it is a peg leg for the top Ike?
Thanks

Type 1 1976 or Type 2?
All the Type 1's were peglegs by design with the anomoly being the "faded pegleg" due to die abrasion:
Below is a typical 1976 Type 1 R which looks very much the same as the R you've posted.
As for the 1972-D, I suppose you could call it a Pegleg but it was really created from a combination of hubbings with one hubbing being the Serifed R and the second hubbing being a non-serifed R. These appear to be quite common with the 1972-D coins and given enough die abrasion, could create an really cool pegleg.
Below is the "typical" 1972-D Pegleg.
The door, is still open on how these pegleg coins came into being as some have obvious die abrasion while others do not. The 1972-D above is a good example in that there's no way that typical die abrasion of have created that pegleg R inside of a Serifed R which basically means that hubbing from different hubs was involved.
Join the discussion on the IKE Groups Web Page or pickup a copy of the latest Errorscope Magazine from CONECA. Bronze has written a well though out article regarding peglegs and the posibility that a lot of what we've assumed were due to die abrasion may not actually be die abrasion.

So are these considered class III doubled dies? Are there any other differences in the design?

I don't know what it would be classified as other than two different design hubs being used.

That is the definition of class III doubling.
One aspect of class III doubling rarely mentioned is that since the hubs are different to a greater or lesser degree, they may not self align thus creating rotational or pivot doubling. ee chapter 29 of the Ike Group book.
