Pinnacle Rarities are right next to my booth and
it looks like they had a decent day. They also bought some nice coins.

lots and lots of empty tables, Lots of gold in the cases of the dealers that were there, lots of people trying to sell junk silver.

Many more dealers than normal with all kinds of swap meet numismatic and ephemera items having long tables of display.

    The show, mostly boring~

I did pick up a few leads though on collections that may show up, and bought some coins i liked but don't need.

More time spent driving to and from than at the show ---not a good trade off.

I attended the show from 11AM to 3PM Thursday. I literally spent about 20-30 minutes trying to find dealers who normally are situated in certain areas of the bourse. About half of those dealers are now scattered throughout the room, most renting tables in the far back. Another 1/4 of those dealers gave up their tables are were wandering the floor, the other 1/4 were at their regular locations. Not the normal scattering of empty tables, but 4-5 empties next together in some spots. This Thursday had the appearance of Sat. morning. Most of the dealers were buying, properly priced and attractive coins had no problem selling. I sold all my better material at a smidgen under my asking prices. Dealers avoided high premiums on nicely toned coins, but were not hesitant to ask 2-3X sheet for their coins. If the bourse hall were half the current size, I would say that would be a good fit. Eliminate the current June Long Beach and more dealers would probably attend Sept. Long Beach.

    1811
    1814 plain four

They were all nice surfaces and light color, rarities for the issue.

For me it's been a great show so far! Several forum members stopped by, took some of their photos, bought a lot of beautiful coins, and sold a ton already! I will have pics and info soon......

So far it feels like a typical Long Beach show except without as much auction buzz as usual. Some are saying they've been very busy while one said it was their slowest show ever. Most are in between.

We at table 530 are also planning on moving towards the back. Doing so will save $400 to $650. Some are beginning to call the back part of the room the show's "redevelopment zone".

Oh yeah, on Thursday one infamous individual who attended the show trying to appear incognito was spotted and subsequently 86'ed from the show by security.

The HA world auction crossed $19 million, due in part to absolutely incredible Brazilian, Japanese, and Korean material. Will undoubtedly hit $20 million after Monday's non-floor sale.

LOL I think I know who you are referring to.

I only attended that last of yesterdays show. Said Hi to Todd, Charmy, Rick, etc.

Only sold one coin. Did not see much I liked, but I hope today is better as most dealers left early Friday.

p.s. Loving the over-priced room service here on the 15th floor at the Hyatt.

Just got home from the LBC... had fun at the show, saw lots of friends, displayed my 1908-S IHC set and saw tons of cool coins. Surpisingly, I didn't buy any coins at the show (none in the auction either so far)... nothing really called out to me I guess. But I was able to sell some stuff so that was nice. Time for a nap!

Most dealers were gone by 1pm and you could hear a pin drop public-wise. This show is dying. Very sad.

I think this particular date had a lot to do with the vacant tables at the coin show. Many of us really do not want to fly on or close to the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and just wanted to be close to home with family, especially today. It is just a bad choice of a date for a coin show, IMHO. I think that the show's organizer's should have either changed their right after Labor Day date this time, or just not led a September Show.

The show was really dead when TrainNut and I arrived Friday afternoon.

Hopefully, the February show will be better, with better dealer participation.

For me, Thursday and Friday went very well. Saturday is always an issue with dealers leaving early and minimal public attendance, although the public seemed to be around Saturday morning.

I thought the show was average... I did sell some cheap unwanted Canadian silver, as well as a 14 d Lincoln to a club member, but did not purchase anything major. I also meet a lot of new forum peeps like Stephanie "coinsarefun", "claychaser", "trainnut", Glenn & Dennis88 from Holsonbake Numis., & Ian Russell from Greatcollections...

It was a very interesting show... As most people who were there have noted, many East Coast dealers begged off in order to prepare for the Philadelphia Show. As a result, the room felt dead; however, both retail and wholesale sales were pretty strong for us, we placed a couple better pieces of Pioneer Gold (including a lovely Oregon $5 that once belonged to a member here), a handful of nice U.S. Patterns, some nicer Type and a large deal of Currency.

On the buy side, the show was fantastic for me - I picked up an Ides of March Denarius (not the one in the sale), a choice Croesus Silver Stater, the Antony and Cleopatra Denarius out of Heritage and a few other great ancients, as well as some really wonderful U.S. Type material.

It seems like the market is working in both directions right now, as long as you know what to look for...

    Bump,
This thread has some great copper in it and I'm insulted it didn't get more discussion. image

    Rays, as usual great pickups.

    DAM,
Dam those are a couple of fine large cents from the 40s. Now that you have it complete are you going to post the complete picture set in it's own thread?
