Another PCGS submission question.

I just saw the thread asking whether to send a PCGS coin in for regrade or crack it and send it raw.

.....Got me thinking, if I have a coin in another TPG holder (say ICG or PCI) that I think should grade by PCGS, can I send it in those holders for a regrade/cross (or whatever you call it)? Do they crack it before grading? Or do they leave it in the holder while grading?

What if I want them to cross the coin, but if it doesn't cross, to please leave it in the previous holder. Is that an option?

Thanks for any info!

......I collect old stuff......

correct me if i'm wrong but this is my impression... i'm far from an authority...

    PGCS will only crossover NGC
    NGC will only crossover PCGS

all other TPG coins can be sent in a holder but they will be cracked out by PCGS and looked at as raw submissions... what you get is what you get...

only NGC coins will be kept in NGC plastic if they don't cross...

They will cross the coin into a PCGS holder from another third party holder. It will not cross if they grade the coin lower than you stipulate. If it doesn't grade it will go in a gen holder. I have been told they leave it in the holder and then crack it out after grading. They just cover the information on the holder. I could be wrong, they may do things different now. I don't know if they have the option of not crossing it if it won't grade, but I don't see why not.

NGC will accept only PCGS holdered coins for crossover, not ANACS, ICG, etc. All other than PCGS holdered coins must be sent in raw.

PCGS accepts most any grading service holdered coin for crossover.

Crossover coins are left in their holder for grading purposes.

PCGS will accept any third party grading service for crossover. The coins are left in their original holders for grading. Unless "crossover at any grade" or a "minimum crossover grade" is requested by the submitter, PCGS will only crossover at the same grade or higher. If PCGS determines that the coin is a lower grade than requested (or genuine), they will return the coin to the submitter in the original holder.
