Observations on the Whister auction this past Sunday

WHISTER

I got a coin for almost $200 less than I was willing to pay, and a lot of people bought some nice "middlin'" coins at lower levels.

The Liberty Caps carried the show, but once you started at 1800, it was weak with some exception. Even some of the Liberty Caps, primarily the 1793's, went for less than I thought.

There is a definite dichotomy in the Half Cent market right now. Under $1K is not a problem for the most part. "Rarified air" where the big boys are butting heads to upgrade or to obtain Cohen varieties when they are over 90 were super strong. $1K-$5K coins for the most part were the middlin' area and underperformed.

That's it for tonight.

Greg
