That's prett cool. Don't know too much about these. Wondering if that's a umpires copy and Stengels auto? Nice piece.

Whitey gave up 4 ER in 2/3s of an inning. Not one of his better performances~! LOL

since 1959 wasn't one of the Yankees historic years and nothing of note happened (i.e. Mantle HR, etc.), I'd place a retail value of $100 or so on it.

    Cool item

Working in MLB I have seen a number of these lineup cards and have a few myself. They are very cool and are a very unusual collectable that not everyone is going to have. Back in the day I used to think these things were going to be worth huge bucks but I found out very quickly that the market is small for these unique items and therefor the demand is small which leads to smaller prices. An item like this Yankees card with all those killer names on it and the Stengel reference I would think would put this at the top end of the spectrum and be worth the most for its era! I would think the only thing better from the 50's would be a lineup card from a world series game or some other notable milestone game.

I wanted to caution you that that Stengel signature might not be his. Very often one of the coaches would fill these cards out and sign the managers name. It might be worth while to authenticate the half signature because if that card is filled out entirely in Casey's hand I would only assume that would increase the value some.

As to if this is the umpires copy, I would think it probably was. I dont think there is a rhyme or reason as to who gets what copy but it was my understand that the umpires always get the originals. They might have done things differently back in the 50's but I know at least in the 80's when I worked in MLB the umpires received the originals.

Here are a few examples of some of the stuff I have.

This 1st one is copies of the opposing team's lineup given to the visiting team and the visiting team manager's copy for himself. This was a game in which it was played at Wrigley Field when Peter Rose was a manager for the Reds. These were Pete Rose's copies that he left on the bench after the game that I was able to grab before the grounds crew came to clean the dugout.

This next set is umpires copies of these lineup cards between the Giants and The Cubs in 1986. I like the umpire copies because you get the original hand writing and signatures of the managers....providing they fill out their own lineup cards.

The next bunch is the type of lineup card they usually show you on television as these are the ones taped to the dugout wall. These have changed somewhat since the onset of the memorabilia hype because I believe MLB prints a specific card for each game on the schedule. Todays dugout lineup cards are generic MLB lineup cards with pre-printed dates and teams on them. The ones I have were printed by the teams themselves and show a bit more character because almost every one of them was different in size and color.

I hope this helps a bit. Honestly, in terms of value I really have no idea. I want to say 200 to 300 bucks if this is Stengel's handwriting and less if its not......but I might be way off in that estimate. These items rarely come to the market so the value is truly determined by the market at the time of the sale.

I hope this all helps!! PM me or email me if I can be of some assistance. You have a great item there that would look cool framed with a boxscore of the game and cards or photos of the players in the game.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

Thanks for all the great info...and yes, it does appear to be from the May 19th game. I was able to find a few other examples nearly identical to this one which had been authenticated by JSA/PSA...so it seems this one was indeed filled in and signed by Stengel.

IMO there is no need to have Stengel's "last name" signature to be authenticated, since any savy collector that would have interest would recognize it as genuine..

As an aside, I own over 100 lineup cards myself (mainly Orioles) and probably the one with the most historical significance would be the one from 05/30/82, which just happened to be Game ONE of Cal Ripken Jr.'s historical Consecutive Game Streak....It's also neat in that Toronto manager Bobby Cox, filled out a lineup card dated 1980 that afternoon..

Just a quick update...I decided to look for something to frame with this lineup card and began looking for a 59' Yankee program. Lo and behold, one of the first few ebay auctions I look at is for the actual May 19th game against the Tigers (same game the lineup card is from). Had to wait for them to relist so I could buy it, but it should be on it's way to me this week. Now I just need to find a ticket stub from that game! If anyone has any leads on that, let me know.

maybe also be cool to include a 1959 team photo in the framed piece as well......
