USPS Question, package stuck at sorting facility since August 17th ugh.

Sold an item a few weeks ago for approximately $600.

Bought insurance and signature confirmation. Item has been stuck in a sorting facility since the 17th of August and it's supposed to go to IL.

Buyer is upset and wants refund. I don't blame him but can't see myself issuing a refund of this amount without the merchandise in hand. What should I do? Is there a way I can call the specific sorting facility?

Thanks in advance.

  • Speak to your local PO employee, they can often see things on their system that the general public is not privy to. Proceed accordingly after getting that info from them first.
  • I had this same issue with 5 items sent via USPS, they actually still say they are in the sorting facility even though they have arrived in South Africa. I think there is a bug in the tracking software on their website...

hope this helps.... If u want i can go and check exactly what it still sais...

if your label was ruined, the item won't get scanned again. I had an issue where the item didn't do anything for a month. the label was ruined but luckily they were able to make out the delivery confirm # . the package was sent to georgia which is where undeliverable packages go . I called them and they found my package and sent it back to me. this was after 2 months. if they can't make anything out on the label I think it is gone.

since you have postal insurance , when can you start the claim process? it has been 3 weeks. if you can't start the claim process, you should communicate this information to the buyer. I don't think you are obligated to a refund yet, if it shows up tomorrow you would be sol and the buyer would have a refund , goods and usps would not cover you.

if you have the sort facility, look up the post office in that area and call it, odds are it probably isn't there though. That is the last scan and it is probably stuck in the next location

Not quite as long but I just had one stuck in Capital Heights, MD for over a week before it scanned again at the same facility and left the building. Probably hurricane related in my case. Finally was delivered yesterday.

  • Ok I just went and checked on my 1 package that was stuck, It arrived in South Africa more than 1 week ago, from the day my friend sent it it said the exact same thing in the tracking software, here is what it said:

    You entered: LC427429390US

Your Item's Status Your item was accepted at 1:21 pm on August 02, 2011 in DANVILLE, KY 40422. No further information is available for this item.

This is more than 1 week after it has arrived in South Africa...

Patrick, i had a package stuck in a facility for a week after an attempted delivery, they put it in a so-called "wrong drawer". LOL

i called the facility directly and demanded to speak with a supervisor....the person i spoke with communicated with the sup. and the next day i received a phone call that they had miraculously found the package!

not saying this is how it will work out, but start by trying to communicate with someone at that facility and be very persuasive.
