Why do Ebay sellers do this?

Well I have bought a total of 10 items on ebay... 6 of them have been 'shipped' internationally without any tracking... Why on earth would you ever do this knowing that there are soo many dishonest people in this world? I am not wanting to recieve the package and then claim in never arrived, although the thought did cross my mind. But now I am waiting on 5 items and none of them were sent with tracking, they (as you could guesse) are not high value items... But the fact the seller did include tracking makes me wonder what should I be doing?(some of the items, the shipping wasnt cheap!!!)

In a way i think a % of these sellers dont even send the item, 1 seller I questioned where the item was, they just issued a refund?? its very strange, but it would seem that they are leaving themselves open to problems. I understand my post office is probrably 1 of the worst in the world, and it could easily get lost by them but without a tracking number I can even determine if they recieved it...

Any suggestions, I just messaged another seller asking for tracking cause its almost been a month now and nothing has arrived, but BBCE box takes less than 7 days to get here.... Bit strange...

Thanks

Craig

International tracking that PP accepts as proof of delivery is expensive as hell. Are you prepared to pay $20-30 for tracking for EACH purchase? Its up to the seller to offer tracking, but not on them to pay for it.

i second this, I would never use tracking on any item under $50 because its just not worth the cost (Also last year I sold a kari lehtonen auto rookie card for 150 and sent it with tracking or usps registered mail and it showed that it was delievered 2 weeks after he paid but paypal does not honor registered mail)

I assume this is one w/o tracking and if so the seller probably realized after the sale how
much it was going to cost.

It may be worth your time to ask questions before you bid.

    Good for you.

    Im more confused now:

Well when I bid or buy on Ebay, it basically tells me the shipping charges before I buy or bid, clearly the seller has set these up so Im not sure how your comment affects the situation, surely if you put things up for sale, and offer world wide shipping, for $5 and I buy your item, you cant come back and tell me its more than 5$ for shipping(Cause now u want to add tracking in)... I dont understand this, so basically he is willing to just hope the items get to the destination and these sellers will basically have to issue me a refund every time it doesnt arrive, what about the dishonest buyer, he must get tons of stuff for free and just claim in never arrived...

From my understanding a tracking number was as simple as the receipt number from the USPS when you paid for postage. I do also understand that not all USPS postage methods include tracking but clearly I dont know much...

Anyways thanks for the help... All I can do is just hope it arrives I suppose...

    Peace

  • There have been many discussions on this, and is a reason a lot of sellers don't ship internationally. The way eBay and Paypal have set it up, you have to pay a high amount in order to comply with all of their buyer/seller protections. I live ten miles from the Canadian border, but it costs me $25 to ship one card there that is fully compliant with all of the eBay/PP rules. I could send it for $2, but I wouldn't be protected from a dishonest buyer.

Thanks I understand allot better now. However wuold this scenario change if we went to Flat rate boxes and envelopes? Do they come standard with tracking?

Thanks again, I now understand why there are so few people on Ebay that offer world wide shipping...

When I said "It may be better to ask questions before you bid"

My meaning was generic in nature. Without all the info I was simply trying to advise
you to make sure you and the seller both understand
the costs involved for shipping to your location with and without tracking.

As for the specif seller you mentioned regarding the refund I was simply giving
    one possible scenario.

In your OP you did not mention that these sellers offered worldwide shipping.

In any event, in your later example about charging 5.00 for WWS don't expect PP/EBay compliant tracking
    the costs are 30.00+

Also, and I'm sure you know this already shipping from the US to foreign countries can take considerable time.

    Good for you.

    .

As has been discussed here MANY times, the cheapest currently PayPal compliant
international shipping is via USPS Express Mail International (EMI).

EMI to SA can easily run over $30.

Sellers who ship ANYTHING domestically w/o PP-compliant tracking are inviting losses.

Sellers who ship ANYTHING internationally w/o PP-compliant tracking are assuring losses.

Domestic tracking for most items is about 20-cents.

International tracking for most items is about $30+.

Why any seller would ship ANYTHING to an internationally-based EBAY STRANGER
w/o tracking is a mystery to me.

If I wanna lose merch, I just throw it in the trash can. I sure don't need to go to
the trouble of listing, packing, paying EBAY/PP, and going to the PO to accomplish
    my tossing task.

EBAY/PP have removed the "World Wide" from the WWW. Sellers bear NO blame
    in that circumstance.

Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
  • I will sometimes ship internationally, any item under 25.00 goes without tracking if the buyer has good feedback, any item over 25.00 the shipping is 30.00 or more.

Had one great buyer who I tried to help on shipping by offering to break up the shipment into 2 boxes and ship EMI, but buyer demanded full insurance & shipped in 1 box so GEG it was and it cost him 140.00 shipping the other way would have been like 90.00 but would have only been insured for 85% of the value. So I was happy either way since the buyer was paying for it.

I don't offer to ship internationally , but still get bids from all over. certain countries I won't ship to unless it track-able.
