FSH: Rare Civil War Dog Tag. SOLD, to a U.S.A.F. MSgt.

This 27 mm Union Soldier Dog Tag was the personal ID of William H. Akehurst (a.k.a. Ackhurst or Ahlhurst), mustered in at rank of Corporal in Troy, N.Y. 1861. Akehurst served in the N.Y. 12th Independent Light Infantry Battery under the command of Captain William H. Ellis. Akehurst mustered out in 1865 at Albany, New York. A brief history of the Unit here. (pdf file, so give it time to upload). Also see Documents of the State Assembly of New York, Vol.14 , p 596.
Obverse design closely resembling the Gobrecht design on reverse of Coronet Head Half Eagle / Eagle. Ernie Bott (EBW Coins) has a lot of 3 of these from New Hampshire soldiers that are offered in the dealer wholesale area of C.C.E. right now at $3100.
UPDATED 9/7: I've added an unissued Sutler's make of Dog Tag as a bonus, appears to have been made from a planed down U.S. quarter dollar; 24 mm diameter with a trace of edge reeding.
My price:SOLD.
