Early Griffey Jr. Auto??

This is most likely just the work of some kid, but I was going through a barrel of bats my dad has accumulated over the years, and came across this. It's signed on the back of an Eddie Murray Little League bat, and as you can see it's dated 1982, Griffey Jr. would have been 13. Just thought I'd post it on here and see what you guys think. I'm 99% sure it's not real, but ya never know.

  • No idea, the earliest signature of his that I can identify would probably be rookie year/couple years pre rookie.

    Good luck in your venture...

The Sears Christmas catalog in either '90 or '91 offered a few pages of autographed baseballs. One of the balls they offered (for I think $59) was a dual signed Ken Griffey Sr. / Ken Griffey Jr. ball. Those are some of the earlier Griffey autographs with COAs that you could use as a reference.

  • This auto of Griffey was from a card show in June, 1989. Got it in person. Earliest Griffey auto I have seen.

  • The K's are similar, but that's it. Does anyone know if he inscribes items. I've been looking for an auto with an inscription, but can't find one. I'd just like to take a look at his handwriting, other than his signature, just to see if any of it matches up.

I have no idea if it's real or not, but I could totally see someone asking for his autograph at age 13. He was the son of a big-time player at the time, and I'm sure if he was hanging around the clubhouse or on the field before a game, a kid could have asked him to sign something. And the autograph of a 13 year old could easily look nothing like the signature of a 20 year old.

Here in Boston, I've seen David Ortiz's son signing autographs for kids during BP. His son is 7.
