Question Regarding PSA/DNA 8x10 Photo Submissions

I have several signed 8x10 photographs that my father gave me years ago when he was collecting, including Mantle, Aaron, Ali, Ted Williams, Satchell Paoge, and I'm thinking of possibly submitting them under the Sept special, and was wondering if PSA charges you to full authentication/grading fee if the sig does not grade or do they offer a voucher or something in that case. I've submitted only cards and packs, so any advice would be appreciated.

  • Yes, you need to pay the fee if they are real or not, because you are paying for their opinion

But would you pay for the grading fee as well if for some reason the item does not authenticate? I would think not.

  • The authentication fee is separate from the grading fee, special or no special.

Based on my interpretation of the special, you have to pay full price for authentication. This is completely non-refundable, as the authenticator will either approve your piece and authenticate it, or reject your piece and issue a "Letter of Regret."

The grading fee is half price on the current special. If your piece fails authentication, the grading fee is refundable in the form of a voucher for a future submission. If your piece passes authentication, it then moves to the grading process, at which time the autograph only will receive a number grade.

Encapsulation is included in the price of the grading fee.

Ordinarily (when there's no special), you have the option of having the photo slabbed or not slabbed. If slabbed, it will come with a blue PSA/DNA flip and 8-digit certification number. In most cases, there will be no 6-digit (one letter and five numbers) certification label affixed to the photo, and no separate LOA will be included. For higher-priced items with a more expensive AUTHENTICATION FEE, the photo will be slabbed with both the 6-digit certification label, 8-digit number on the blue flip, and you'll get a separate "Letter of Authenticity and Grading" that indicates both the 6-digit and 8-digit certification numbers.

If you don't want the photo slabbed, they simply use the 6-digit certification label on the photo and issue a "Letter of Authenticity and Grading." For lower-priced items, the grading fee includes the upgrade from the basic COA to the full letter.

Because they're referring to it as the "PSA/DNA Autographed 8x10 Photo Grading & Encapsulation Special," I don't think you can opt out of having the photo put in a slab if you want the 50% discount on the grading fee, but you should call them to ask if this is what you want.
