  • Gary,

If the wording has changed to 1964, 1992-Present, I would guess that means that you can now use one of the Silver Proofs that the Mint has been putting out since 1992 in that slot. Better double check with BJ first, but the coin has the same composition as the 1964 piece.

  • Well it sure seems inconsistent with quarters and dimes. Shouldn't all three be treated the same? Both quarters and dimes have two slots for silver while the Kennedy has one.

Yes, David Hall decided to add the silver Kennedys to the sets because they are the same composition as the one 1964 Kennedy. He felt this would better server the collector by giving a larger date range from which to select. No, the late date Roosevelts and Washington quarters will not be added to the sets as there is a many year spread from which to choose.

If you have any questions, please email me at bj@collectors.com. I'm working really hard on the very complicated change from the 1900-present type set to the 20th century type set and won't be visiting this board much today.

    Thanks.

Hey BJ is the 1979 S SBA narrow rim or not? Our resident expert TAD says it is however the registry says it is a wide rim?

  • Bill,

1979 P (common) D, & S coins are all Narrow Rim coins. 1979 P (rarer), and 1980-1999 pieces are the Wide Rim style. May have been a typo on the setup.

... except that 1999 is not really wide or narrow rim, it's a complete redesign. If anything, 1999 is more similar in appearance to a narrow rim (far date) design.

Hey, somebody's gotta keep that pet peeve fed. image
  • Stick with value-based weighting or the 1972 Ike, Tad. Nobody cares enough about Susie for that issue to ever fly. imageimageimage

BTW, I sent you an email.

  • I care about Bill's 1979-S Susie. If PCGS has it in the wrong slot, I'm going to have to show them the error of their ways. Especially since that's the date I grabbed from Tad last week for my set.

And since Tad was nice enough to help me last time PCGS couldn't figure out the 2 Major rims, guess I better be nice. When PCGS started the 1959-present set and required the second rim of the Susie, they thought that the 1979-P (rarer) was the only one that would work for the 1979 slot. Tad sent me some scans which I sent to PCGS and showed them that they were backwards in which would fit the slot and got it straightened out.
