<< <i>CBS declared Gore the winner in Florida while voting was still happening in the Panhandle with the purpose to dissuade voters from "wasting" their time going to the polls at the end of the day. >>
The five biggest networks declared Gore the winner, all within a few minutes of each other. From what I've read, NBC was the first.
That is correct.
SteveK may be an alarmist, but the basis of what he says he is correct with regard to losing in the long run, if not the short run.
I think that if you can control your wagering to the point where it doesn't affect your livelihood or family relationships and responsibilities, the enjoyment factor may outweigh the longer odds. Just like with drinking, not everyone develops a drinking problem, and gambling is similar in that regard.
We rip open wax packs in search of gem mint and rookie cards even though the long term odds of beating the game are even longer than with gambling, but the enjoyment one gets out of that activity (as long as they are in control of their spending) outweighs those long odds. >>
I'm not gonna argue with that and I've got a track record here of over 7 years and over 20,000 posts, so I only take offense with what Boopotts (Guy is his first name) stated because he is a very intelligent person, and he knows what he said about me was basically false. He owns, or at least he used to own, a gambling affiliate website, so of course he doesn't like my posts against gambling. That's understandable because he probably feels my posts against gambling could take money out of his pocket. Well Guy...grow up and live with it...it's known as the marketplace of ideas and whether it's what you try to do with your website, or general business or anything else, there is always going to be competition...so get used to it and I hope you stop with the left wing liberal type falsehood spins.
I try not to be alarmist, but to create awareness about the addiction. There are many Boopotts types out there promoting gambling, compared to just some stevek types attempting to simply make good folks aware about the problems of gambling addiction. Grote15 knows I have never knocked his posts about betting on Derby Day, etc and I've congratulated him on some nice scores he has had there, and I don't mind discussing gambling in the least. The thing that bugs me a bit is there are countless warnings in society about drug addiction, drinking, tobacco, and even obesity and other things...but hardly anything whatsoever about the inherent problems and dangers of gambling and gambling addiction.
I've learned to stifle myself here about this as many who know me here, i don't talk much about it any longer, but sorry, once in awhile it slips out...I can't help it - it's my nature. So I apologize to mcadams for derailing some of the thread, but I'll never apologize for the message, and I sincerely wish everyone here well...yes, including Boopotts.
