Steve likely makes a decent gross markup on his cards and he is entitled to that...but he likely spends a fair amount of time and effort chasing after "garbage" from sellers overhyping their unopened packs, and all of those costs have to be factored in, as well as overhead, payroll, etc.
I doubt very much if on an overall net profit basis, Steve could afford to do layaways because of cash flow...and most small businesses cannot afford to do that for similar reasons.
