Anybody Have Any Idea What the Scam Being Attempted is Here ?

Morning,

13 years on Fee-Bay and I would never believe that a Buyer would be up to something ! Yeah rightimage

So anyway, three times in the last 2 weeks, three different buyers send the "Where is my Item" E-mail from E-Bay, about 2-3 weeks after a transaction is done and over. I go through my DC's and it shows delivered two weeks ago, 3-5 days after purchased. So I send the "Here is the DC number, it shows it was delivered to you two weeks ago, on Blah/Blah/Blah, if there is any more assistance I can provide please let me know.
Thank You
Neil N. Duty"

Then I never hear from them again, They had to see the Big Green DC on the package....So just WTF are they up to??

  • Ok so 3 weeks after buying an Item I send the seller a MSg saying where is my Item (Remember im in AFrica) The seller had charged me 13$ for shipping (5 wax packs). The seller informs me there is no tracking number, will I wait another week before filing the claim? So I msgd them back and said that the 3 itmes i bought on the same day and paid for in the same batch are already here in South Africa over a week ago, that means that this package is some 2 weeks slower than the others. I told the seller if they could prove the item was sent I would be willing to wait before claiming the refund. The seller then goes and issues a refund and sais I must contact her when the package arrives?

Is this kind of behavior normal? I thought this is their way of saying "well I didnt acutally ship it" And if your a seller on ebay surely you should know that you must take tracking on international items otherwise there are always going to be those dishonest people who 'always' never recieve an item... I know Im a bit of a noob, but what are your guys thoughts on that situation?

    Thanks

I thought I had it all figured out. Sellers on ebay are crooks, buyers are idiots. But lately I'm reading of scams by the buyers and sellers who do some dumb sh!t,er I mean crap, er things. Anymore I just don't know what to think. image

  • My guess is that some buyers simply spam such messages to all sellers they have purchased from, hoping to hit the occasional one who either threw out the DC receipt or simply refunds rather than deal with such an issue. They may even have software to automate it. A nice way to make a little extra money, if you're unencumbered by a sense of right and wrong.

Which would be my guess as well, But what it did accomplish, was to get all three of the Buyers I mentioned onto my BBL, because I just can't take the risk, even if two were just absentminded and actually forgot they recieved the Card, at least one was probably doing just what you mentioned and if they have no scruples about doing that they would do anything to Steal from you!!

I had on of those as well in the last couple weeks..

I also had a guy request I send card to his work address and it was unable to be delivered..
now post office has it in a holding pattern for over a week..

I don't think there is any foul play on that one.. but not sure why d.c. shows no movement on the package for a week

Doeasn't cost 'em anything for a quick "scam" email so I guess they probably figure what the yell, maybe this seller is disorganized and might refund my money or send me another item or similar item for free. In my opinion, most of these type of emails aren't from being absent minded, they are looking at hopefully getting something for nothing. in any event Neil handled it professionally and that got rid of them.

I had that happen a few times when I sold all of my dad's stuff.

Luckily I held on to all of the slips and clipped them together by the week they ended.

Each time I replied with the tracker and told them it was delivered I never heard a word.

IMO it's dirtbag buyers looking to for a free card and nothing more.
  • I always use Ebay/PayPal shipping. I bought a $10 scale from the local office store. DC is only $0.19 with PP.

The scales paid themselves off. Besides the buyer gets the DC number instintly.

I'd advise anyone to do this.

It is too simple and cheaper to use ebay shipping. Tracking is automatically uploaded to the sold item screen and the tracking # can be clicked on to see its status.

I always use PP shipping. I haven't gotten any of those emails. Maybe they only target people who use the green DC label?

Folks using the green labels can input the DC# manually on EBAY's "Items Sold,"
    "add tracking" screen.

The info is then uploaded to PayPal; the PP screen will show when the item
    is delivered.

    .............................

I've been experimenting with PP-Shipping. No problems, so far.

The carrier takes them from my box and they are all being scanned as
accepted. I'm using the red "Scan Me" labels, available on EBAY; but,
a red sharpie is prolly just as good.

    ....................................

Maybe the attempted scammers are simply hoping that the seller tossed
the green ticket AND failed to send the numbers to EBAY/PP.

    Even if a seller throws the green ticket away, the info is still at EBAY/PP;
provided it was entered by the seller on the EBAY "add-tracking" screen.

Sellers using the green tickets should make it a firm habit to enter the
number on EBAY, IMMEDIATELY upon returning from the post office.

    .................................

    As has been noted before:

    Entering the DC number;

    Using "free" shipping; and,

Marking the "one day hadling" box,

eliminates TWO of the DSR stars; shipping cost, and shipping time.

I sold a card to a newbie who claimed the card had adhesive on the back of the card and wanted a partial refund. I told the person to send the card back and I will refund the purchase. A few days later the buyer sent a message saying that he was able to remove the adhesive, so the card was fine and he was going to keep it.
