What planet are they shiping to? I dont even think I have paid that much shipping on items... wow, do they encase it in gold bullion for protection? Maybe they post it inside of a safe or sumthing... lol
It sounds high to me for that price range. Maybe they have a standard minimum shipping if they move a lot of expensive stuff.
I can't understand why EBAY buyers don't want to pay more for shipping. I want it arriving safely and it that cost a few bucks more who cares. When I ship a graded card you could use the package as a football and not hurt the card.

Not very many people on Ebay interested in paying more for anything, especially shipping. Plus, the way the system is rigged on Ebay, the buyers have all the power if their item does not arrive 100% intact and undamaged. So, until Ebay becomes more seller-friendly (unlikely) you will continue to see buyers who demand satisfaction at every step.
The problem with high shipping costs on ebay is, even if sellers charge $5 for shipping, the card always ends up coming in a single bubble mailer sans extra padding, DC, and insurance. At least this has been my experience 90% of the time.

Mickey, I think the issue is, outside of "you're going to get screwed", we really don't know. These are the exact reasons I never bid on things from major auction houses. The buyer's premium is known, but the shipping? Seventeen bucks to ship one card? What would they charge to ship 2 cards? 10 cards? An entire graded set? How about memoriabilia? I guess you could assume $20 or less for one card, but for anything else, who knows? I always get leery when shipping costs aren't even approximated and made known to the buyer. In the back of my mind, that tells me that shipping will be "determined" based on whether the auction house was happy with the final bid.

Did you have an expensive card insured with the shipping?

1957 Topps Newcombe PSA 9 - $450. So, no, I don't think it is too expensive. One card worth less than $500.

All auction houses use shipping as another source of revenue. Its like the ATM fees at strip clubs or casinos.
The AH's that sell on Ebay like Memory Lane had to change their shipping prices because of getting so many dings to their shipping stars. Kinda funny.

So as long as everyone is doing something wrong, then that makes it right? I get it now - thanks for clarifying.
