First coin photo with new camera

I'm still "playing" with my week-old Nikon D5100 it to learn all its secret handshakes, but I thought this came out pretty well for a first-time attempt to shoot a close up of a coin. The circulated 1999 Canadian cent in the picture is one of a handful of world coins on my office desk left over from various journeys in recent years.

Obviously, the folks who run the PCGS TrueView photo department have absolutely nothing to fear from me.

What f stop
Did you focus manually?
Icoopie, I used the lens that came with the camera, 18 - 55mm, and simply set the automatic mode to close up. I don't recall the f stop. I'll probably purchase a macro lens or adapter if I need to make larger file size JPGs. I'm still learning the ins 'n' outs of the Nikson D5100. For those of you going to Long Beach next week, the guy you see walking the bourse floor with a confused look on his face as he puzzles over his camera will probably be me....

before you purchase an extra lens
i have a couple tips for you to try that should make your images quite large without spending for a lens like i did
I am happy to have the lens I do but i can just about accomplish the same feat with a normal digi cam with macro function
