SGC Flip Question Old vs New

In this board's opinions, is there any difference in the way cards were graded in the SGC cards in the original flips versus the way they are graded on cards flips which show the PSA equalivant?

The older label flips appear to be alot more leniant to me.
  • older sgc flips sell for less, standards were looser...

Centering standards at times on the older flips was non existant. Some look to sharp also. I wouldn't make a living buying the old SGC flips.
  • Morning,

I just cracked out two Old SGC 1956 Topps Football that were NM 7. One had a horizontal crease in the center of the card completely across card from left to right. The second one had a 1/4 total corner crease.
Also as mentioned I recently picked up a large lot of 1960's SGC graded Football. There were NM-MT 8's and MINT 9's with basically no border on top/bottom or one side.
Old SGC Grades are a Joke IMO !!!

  • From what I have seen both SGC and PSA's older flips were a bit more lenient on grading standards. IMO both companies have tightened the standards to where they should be and are both very close to each other.

Couldn't agree more. Lot's of sliders in older PSA/SGC holders out there.

The older SGC holders, as mentioned, do not sell for the same amount as the new ones. I am not even certain SGC will honour their guarantee with the old holders.

Not possible, SGC is perfect, at least that's what I've seen on the message board over there

Don't make me bring out the Walter Hagan that "they" said was a '3', that "they" later said was trimmed!!!
  • I see older PSA slabs(before 1/2 pt.) go for a premium but in person most I've seen look worse for the grade than the new ones.
