1797 2d Great Britain- the big one

There are two examples currently at auction- one in the Goldberg auction and the other at Heritage. The Heritage example is graded MS64 and the Goldberg example is raw- which do you prefer and which will bring the higher amount?

Does the fact that the 1797 2d at Heritage was slabbed and graded MS64 influence your opinion?

I didn't know a coin that thick could be slabbed.

Yes, they have a double thickness slab.

I'm not sure I like any of them right now, the Goldberg specimen has what looks like a couple of carbon spots starting on the reverse but I like the color of the coin overall. There are two at Heritage, the 64 has some annoying dark spot on the reverse, and the 63 has a large fingerprint across the reverse.

The 1797 2d are graded by NGC- I think this will be interesting to follow. The Goldberg example looks to be the best of the lot

Will the slab prevail over eye appeal?

Anybody got pix or links, just so I can ogle these coins?

I saw a raw Red UNC cartwheel at a show, once. (I think it was a 2d but don't remember for sure, it bedazzled me so much. I think it was Spink that had it for sale.)

    Lord M -

I am terrible at these sort of things but I found the Goldberg which was linked first followed by the Heritage NGC64

Just curious what some may think and there is another 63

I like the Goldberg example a little better, even if it is technically AU. It has some nice color.

The Heritage piece is nice, of course, but has some staining.

Both are awesome, but neither compares to that one I saw at the FUN show once. (Which was raw, so I don't know how original the Red was, but it sure was something to see.)

The Goldberg looks better than AU based on the fields, lustre and even the high points

I think it will be interesting to see how this turns out- the 64 is at 900 and the other is 301

Is there a 1799 2d or is this thread about the 1797 in the Link?

The tuppers are common enough in BU that eventually a nice example will show up, I have even seen some reds. Of course demand drives price, and they are not chape. I sure would steer away from any with someone's grimy paw print on it.
