Is this an error coin?

Some kind of broadstrike maybe? I'm guessing minor if it is.

    Anyone? The wide rims is what I'm referring to.

    Is it a bit larger in diameter than a typical cent?

    It looks like a broadstrike on a blank ("Type I planchet"). The blank did not go through the upset mill.

    Then again, the absence of metal flow in the peripheral letters may indicate that the rim was flattened after the strike.

    A coin struck without the collar would be slightly larger than a coin struck with the collar. (i.e. broadstruck.)

    Actual determination needs to be done in hand by a professional since there could be many variables of which I know nothing about that could come into play here.

    It may have been pressed into one of those aluminum good luck charms.

    Mike D. is correct -

    It's a nice Broadstruck cent on a
    Type 1 (no rim) blank.

    In all probability, the slightly larger
    diameter of the T1 Blank is what
    prevented the blank from being
    properly seated into the collar;
    it was laying on top of the collar
    when struck; thereby "broadstruck
    out of the collar"......
